on Tumblr you had 14-year-olds talking about Adventure Time right next to 30-year-old men talking about My Little Pony, and those men were also there for the messed-up porn and fetish "communities" that were always the main draw of Tumblr. Add to that that Tumblr had lots of SJ communities and that lots of the creepy bronies and furries would also decide to become the anime girl, and you get the real girls on Tumblr pooning out because Steven Universe doesn't get asked for nudes online. And it flew under all these girls' radars because they always lived in a world with internet and all their friends were on social media (where nothing was anonymous), so surely the internet is a safe place full of girls just like them?
This! She was already in HS when Tumblr was in its heyday. I was in the tail-end of MS, and we had such drastic differences in our experiences. I remember going with the crowd and keeping my head down because of how vicious it would get over nothing. Worst of all, there weren't just disgusting men trying to prey on kids but women twice your age. Not just in pedophilic bs, but ideology. A lot of them couldn't give a fuck if you just followed them, they wanted you to hang off of their every word and agree with them every step of the way.

Vlogs becoming a big thing on YouTube and Instagram was the death rattle for the internet going down the way it did. The moment ppl fell into it, being anonymous online was no longer the only choice. Myspace and Facebook were only for you and people to connect under an actual name and face. They were their own separate places that no one would purposely cross over with their actual internet identity.

is to nuke online anonymity altogether, and it's really sad because we may not have had to if not for smartphones and social media. I also think that smartphones propelled the porn crisis since you could wank anytime, anywhere at high speeds, plus since everyone is online, you're not a loser if you're always online for porn, and you can go into your social media fetish "communities" on your phone all the time so you don't have to feel bad about it. Of course, porn fueled troonism as well.

What also did us in was porn becoming free through the internet. Like all I had to do was punch it into a search engine and I could watch anything. Like wtf would we pay for it if you can hop online and have anything you want? These poor fuckers watch so much of it; all they can do is keep finding harder and harder shit to watch. They can't get off on simple and real shit anymore. These ppl wouldn't have so easily developed porn addictions if they had to wait for monthly issues and dvds to be released.

Porn is the main reason I want everyone to have to have internet IDs (fun fact: online anonymity was initially developed to make porn viewing more discreet), but if things had been a little different we maybe could have just extended CP laws to all porn and kept online anonymity. Sad.

I don't think that porn is empowering by any means and would like to see major changes in the industry as a whole. However, I dislike the notion of extending CP laws to all porn for the following reasons:

1. I think that it could be used by bad actors to censor content that isn't pornographic in nature but is disagreeable for other reasons, for example, being anti-religious or homoerotic.

2. It infantilizes adults, specifically women, who make porn. Children can't consent, adults can. The choices they make may be harmful to them in the long run, but we still empower adults to be allowed to make those decisions.

3. It will push the industry deeper underground and those who participate in it will have even less protection than they do now. Pornography has been around forever, it isn't going anywhere.

This is what frightens me the most, even though I agree 100% with what you're saying on everything else as well.

Like I said, I know times are tough economically, and hence a big motivator to keep your head down and not rock the boat. But.... the almost feudalistic acceptance of things being shitty and crab-bucket mentality amongst young people due to social media mobs is terrifying. Of going with the crowd no matter what. I'm 38 myself. You know it, back in our day we were taught to (try to) be independent, speak up, follow what we felt was the right thing to do. Shit, Garfield and Friends' Buddy Bears gag (a show I watched as a kid) PARODIED the groupthink our generation was getting away from with the "if you ever disagree that means you are wrong" line in their theme song. "If you have a point of view, then keep it out of sight." And yet.... yet now this is unironically what's being peddled. This is what the future became.

The internet being so controlled by a million little tyrants or overseers as it consolidates, you're right, it's shaped a lot for the worse since one can get cut off from culture and society. But when will everyone wake up and realize the internet is not the real world?
Every Buddy Bears group think gag aged really well. I can just picture them preaching that "misgendering trans people is wrong" with Roy being the evil terf they drop sixteen ton safes on.

Fun Fact, I own some Garfield and Friends animation stills.

I think that's one of those old-school absolutely fucking insane people. No makeup, sensible shoes, probably some long philosophical argument about why he can wear a dress. Or a dead wife backstory.

Admittedly the breasts are a wild card.

I love this dude's takes on a lot of trans issues. He's the only youtube trans criticizer that hadn't gone crazy dickriding Israel.
The most recent one is about an embarrassingly bad study on, about, 32 MtF "athletes" and how they're weaker on estrogen. It's the same deal as usual-- they used an extremely low pool of above-average physically active participants to compare to literal (professional) female athletes. In order to push for troons to be allowed to compete alongside them. Shocker, it somehow managed to get published by a peer-reviewed magazine despite being embarrassingly bad for the publisher's image

Sorry, I can't reply to the post directly.
I'm just glad someone is talking about this retard. The amount of MtFs that use anime as a segway to troonery is fucking pathetic and obnoxious. You can't literally go anywhere without some greasy neckbeard UwUing like the short bus came early for once.
Anime communities are disgusting and keep getting worse, either it's the pseudo philosophical trannies producing +100 minutes of "analysis" on YouTube, or rapid horny retards getting off over armpits shots on Reddit and Xitter, or degenerate women declaring every horny-bait male protag %100 gay and yoai coded. Normal people are a small minority in Anime.

Nah. Plenty of old fogies at my local pool have moobs like that. He's got a gut and the saggy grandpa tits to match.

Often, these three are the same person.

I liked this video, but I have to admit, I laughed out loud when he called Zooey Zephyr an "actual lawmaker"

Good. If something is really risky and dangerous, fewer people will do it. Look at how OnlyFans making prostitution easy and physically safe has resulted in an explosion of girls becoming whores.

I think anime and manga, in general, need some kind of understanding (if not a warning label) that they reflect a very different cultural attitude and set of standards towards sex, women, society, and just life in general that isn't really something you should be consuming without being aware of. The amount of fetish/softcore shit is unreal in modern manga, and it's all lumped in as essentially young adult equivalent literature. The reason why those communities keep getting worse is because if you see something like Made in Abyss and don't have serious second thoughts about the tropes of the medium and the artists that are rewarded by the industry and whether you should consume it, then you're basically just left with coomers and trannies and other degenerates who don't see the problem. I've been genuinely shocked when I've seen what is imported and translated by Western nations because any Western artist who wrote or drew something similar would not be able to take it to publication (and would likely be facing serious questions.)

anyone else just straight up hate troon musicians? out of all types of art, those tend to be the worst imo.
Mainly because of the creep factor. Knew and liked this one artist who made absurd music. The whole point of it was that it was all ironic. Turned out though that the artist behind it wasnt actually a woman. Made me feel gross as fuck. The whole point of the music was that it was meant to be a parody of womanhood.
ts hard to explain, but really the fact they turned out to be a troon made all the nuance and irony disappear. Its different when men write that shit.

Also iits jarring seeing obvious male singers claim to be women. Dude, you sound like a shitty version of Kurt Cobain. Fuck off.

The killer is that, at least nowadays, it seems only the awful manga and novels are translated and imported, officially or not. Only 4 Leiji Matsumoto manga have been fully translated into English, and the rest, including Galaxy Express 999, is either incomplete or not translated at all. Most manga by Katsuhiro Otomo, the creator of Akira, haven't been translated. There are tons of other influential classics like Crusher Joe, Wings of Rean, Locke the Superman, and Genma Taisen that have little/no material in English -- yet meanwhile, English publishers are picking up the most strange, forgettable, throwaway pulpy stuff, stuff that is often oversexed and pedophilic. You'd think that it would be easier to market a manga about a boy riding on the introspective space train than a manga about a loser getting reincarnated in the same old video game world and becoming a beloved hero with 15 wives 7 of whom are teenagers, but I guess that speaks to how degenerate society has become. Yet at the same time, the fans are no better than the companies since manga that has zero chance of an official translation, like the Super Robot Wars manga, are largely ignored aside from the hentai doujins.

There's a manga called Keroro Gunsou that looks like a harmless, funny story about a pair of kids and their pet alien frog, but the amount of sexualization and pedophilia in that manga is borderline pornographic -- and it's marketed towards kids/young adults; it's not one of those "it looks happy and childish on the surface but it's actually a grimdark deconstruction" things.

Before I got into anime, I thought it was all shows for pillow-humping incels about squeaky little girls with grey alien eyes and big bouncing breasts, but it's okay because she's actually a super smart 9000-year-old forest nymph -- and I'm glad I thought that way because it directed me towards safer (and more original and engaging) material when I got into anime. Meanwhile, the young kids who know no better are watching and reading borderline-pornographic stuff like My Hero Academia and One Piece, which will either give them massive trauma and tons of convention/anime club horror stories or make them into hopeless porn addicts.

I was part of an "anime club" in high school for a few years. In retrospect it was full of total freaks, one of whom grew up to poon out and one of whom is almost certainly a troon now (but I've blocked his ass so I don't know for sure).

One of the guys was a creepy, greasy autist who got weird towards my best friend a couple of times. At one point, she decided to minimize her interactions with him, because she had been molested as a kid and she'd discovered that he had loli shit on his phone (not full porn but pinup type shit).

He was a big fan of Sgt. Frog and got our club to watch it a bunch of times. I wasn't really into it so I didn't pay much attention, but it makes a lot of sense with this new information. He also put on some anime with little kids wearing skimpy clothes and literally unironically said "no, they're hundred year old demons, it's fine".

The club ended up being basically shut down when another of the freaks put on a zombie anime that was full of massive bouncing tits and swollen vulva panty-shots, and the teacher in charge of supervising walked in the room during a barely-censored bath scene.
