It's terrible. It's crappy in every way... but it's colorful, simple, pure. It reminds the people that buy it of their youth and a time in their lives they can't get back.
It's like McDonalds Szechuan Sauce in Rick and Morty and how fans react to it now. It was never good, but 20 years ago Rick (and probably by extension one of the writers) reacted vaguely positively to it and over the course of 19 years, it gets better. The Nathan Fillion bug reacting to the sauce isn't tasting the actual sauce, he's tasting every good thing Rick remembers about it, amplified over time. Of course the McDonalds sauce is kind of crappy now that they've relaunched it. It was always crappy. It's a McDonalds sauce. People miss the point.
Wonderbread is the same kind of deal. Yeah, it's objectively inferior bread, structurally. Yeah, it's as bland as bland gets. But it's got colored polka dots and it reminds some person of a time when their parents were still alive.
