Most people I know who hate the word are older gay people who either got the shit beat out of them while being called "queer" or knew others who were. It boggles my mind that people don't get that.

It also just sounds dumb as a word. Which of course is related to its use as an insult. Of all the things to reclaim en masse why did literally anyone think that KWEER was the most flattering option?

Because God forbid someone want to hear the sounds of the world around them.

I'll admit that gave me the feels for reals. What an oddly wonderful situation, to be discovering one aspect of the world with child-like wonder, yet to be old enough to appreciate the beauty of it all.

We actually have a deaf community thread, and you're right, this would be DEAF CULTURE ERASURE *signs reeeeeeee*. I'm sure this person is getting shit on six different ways by their Deaf (because it's an identity!) community friends.

I'm honestly amazed that a Cochlear implant is giving them enough fidelity to even pick up some of those fainter sounds. I thought it was a much more limited sensation provided by the electrodes. The DSP and mics must be getting really good.
