Someone who I care a great deal for is a real, living Indigenous person for whom this is a genuine concern and taboo, and I know they're not the only one to hold this belief to this day. It's the least someone can do to respect this belief. If an older traditional Christian woman felt genuine fear that speaking of "the devil" would summon it, I would respect that, too. Beliefs like these aren't relics of a bygone era, they are still an active part of some people's beliefs and understandings of reality to this day.
No one's saying that they aren't. We're complaining about the people online who automatically assume everyone who utters its name is doing so maliciously and is evil instead of just not knowing.

Sure, it's generally better to assume ignorance rather than malice, but that is not what I was addressing in my post. The person I was responding to said this:

While that is part of the popularized version of the legend, acting like native people today are living in fear of summoning [it] is as ridiculous as claiming that "bloody mary" is a taboo and that every time you say it online you're oppressing white americans by triggering their anxiety that a ghost will come out of the mirror to kill them.
This ^ is an untrue claim and misrepresents the modern belief systems of people that I know. I know it's not a "ridiculous" claim to say that speaking of certain things is taboo because I have experience attesting to the existence of such a custom.

I can understand it, tbh.
This just makes me wonder if it's an actual realistic sim that might rely on real-world knowledge. There was a period early in the home PC era where that sort of thing was fairly popular and sold well; my grandpa (a MD) played the crap out of this one even though it was effectively his day job.

For what?

The only native people I've met who GENUNIELY believe in them and aren't wokescolding are occultists who are serious about all sorts of nature/land deities.

I have never met an autist who doesn’t like trains. On a serious note, if someone wants something less stereotypical, ships are good. The ship/boat fandom is so full of autism.
Light Yagami has Narcissistic Personality Disorder, is homicidal, and doesn't like the police.
Trannies have Narcissistic Personality Disorder, are homicidal, and don't like the police.
Trans Light Headcanon makes sense.

I wonder if there’s a term for phenomena where tumblr users just freak out and spew random bullshit when they see something that challenges their worldview. I saw this under a thread about how keeping outdoor cats is pretty bad for the environment and keeping your cat alive.

I have no idea where “Christmas is a pagan holiday” comes into this conversation. Bonus that’s more related than that.
