Random Tumblr posts

That's the thing though, there are some who absolutely hate using the site (myself included) but there's no other blogging platform that's as easy to set up, catalog, and customize to your particularly niche style of interests as Tumblr is (not even LiveJournal). I mean, yeah, the dangerhairs all tend to be cookie-cutter of each other but you'd be surprised how few archives there are for other interests that aren't highly impersonal forums (i.e. things like "vulture culture", certain video game fandoms, various multimedia artists, whatever).

It's true they're blowing things horrifically out of proportion, but still. It would be a legitimate pain in the ass if the whole site was taken down like Yahoo did to GeoCities.

And it inevitably will happen. Yahoo is notorious for closing down sites and services. (Flickr will die before Tumblr. Trust me on this one)

It'd be stupid as hell they'd do something like that since Flickr is like *THE* go-to site for photographers both professional and amateur, but I'd believe it. I'm actually kind of hoping one of the companies that wants to buy out Yahoo will have some better fucking social media acumen and not shut things down. I mean the whole reason they fucking lost so much money was trying to alienate the current userbase with changes no one asked for or wanted in attempts to make a "competitive" PDF site to rival YouTube or some other ridiculous bullshit.

It's coming for you.

If this did happen (it's Tumblr after all) I suspect that the woman's fury wasn't directed at these people because they were black. It's much, much more likely that the woman has had hundreds of people stomping about the place since Pokemon was released and became a thing, and had simply reached the point where she was going to murder the next idiot she saw waving their phone around and thinking that she couldn't see them sneaking in and out of her yard as they hunted computer sprites. It's also very, very relevant that no one else was out there lurking around this prime water Pokemon area, irregardless of their ethnicity etc. So wouldn't that imply that the malfunctioning robot woman had scared them away, just as she scared away this couple?

When it comes to the artists, platforms like Smackjeeves, Taptastic, and classic Deviantart still exist, so if there's warning of a collapse, circles will probably exchange info and migrate without much issue other than having to rebuild an audience again. So, nothing they're unfamiliar with. Site fell? Pack up and move. Resume cycle.

But the people who blog for the purpose of "WORSHIP ME" and burning people for existing... I guess go back to Livejournal? Is that even a thing anymore? Probably petitions up the ass to bring Tumblr back.

Time and time again tumblr clones have been a pipe dream for those who'd wanted a new one for SJW safe spaces and for Anti-SJW safe spaces alike, but have all failed once the realization of making a mass user blogging platform being actually difficult and expensive kicks in. I think Inkstand has tried three times and fallen at the finish line because potatoes.

Inkstand has recently shown signs of life a few weeks ago, so maybe they will if they can find more than one programmer.

The last I really heard of them, they were "Just about ready" to open their work to the public some time in December, then went silent for a while before saying "NVM it's over because the programmer left" with no other information afterwards.

This was after they did a small GoFundMe and had people give them email addresses connected to their "reserved" urls for when the whole thing went live.

I didn't even know nor check if Pillowfort ever went live. The name alone is just embarrassing and cringy sounding. A least Inkstand sounds like a writing platform.

Ironically, Pillowfort is the only one that's actually making any headway (having already reached a first beta stage) and communicating with users, though they are looking for long-term financing solutions. Inkstand is just a lot of vague radio silence and the app's been taken down off the site it was hosted on with claims it's "trying" to refund its backers, which smacks of Dashcon 2.0, if you ask me.

...much as I hate to say it, I think Pillowfort may be the only viable option if Tumblr gets shut down since there's really no other sites being built off of Tumblr's original model. I've looked into a lot of the the usual blogging "alternatives" and none of them offer a remotely similar platform to display/share content (at least not for free; fuck you and your data limits, Wordpress).

EDIT: Really, if you just teamed up the Pillowfort group and the programmers behind New Xkit, you could quite possibly have a viable site.

...I can dream, can't I?

If tumblr were to go down suddenly, what would happen? Like seriously, would there just be mass suicides of danger-haired teens/young adults nation-wide cuz they can't get their fix of whining and fandom?

Real talk tho, where would all these people migrate to? The tumblr format/audience has clearly proved to be a fruitless endeavor in terms of the money making department, and I doubt that anyone on tumblr has the skills to create a website that would be anywhere near as popular, as that PillowFort abomination has shown.

Well they could always find things to do outside of social media websites- go find a job, invest in hobbies, go out for a walk...

A-logging aside, the reason tumblr is so popular, i believe, is because you get attention immediately with anything you do- thoughts, art, graphics...Unlike deviant art or classic blog sites that your stuff will only get noticed if somebody searches for it or you have big word of mouth. In tumblr anyone can get popular, provided they have worthy content, and i guess that works to boost up these people's egos like nothing.

For those who crave attention, anyway. And that's mostly the artist/blogger side. Some people just like how easy it is to make content to share with others - you don't really see other sites promoting TV show/movie gifsets or artsy graphics; places that are basically fansites for something that isn't a celebrity or the more "mainstream" media (your "fyeah-whatever" type blogs for example); under the spergy whiny teenage surface it's really great for those who can't find decent content of something they like anywhere else.

...you also usually don't have such an easy access to such a wide variety of porn all in one place, either. Be it straight, gay, BDSM, professional, amateur, furry; whatever the fuck tickles your dick you can usually find it all with just a few searches.

^Indeed, and there's currently a lot of fear mongering going on about how tumblr is going to shut down literally any minute now.
I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing.
There are TONS of amazing artists and animators on Tumblr, but then again, they'll have Deviantart/SmackJeeves/Twitter etc.
The best positive out of this would be the quick death of SJW bloggers.
Why are people acting as if this is a new thing? Sure, what the trolls were doing was wrong, but this shit happens DAILY on Twitter to almost EVERYBODY.
She could have saved herself the trouble by following this tweet:

as well as the rule,
DON'T FEED THE TROLLS.

People did, she responded by calling them bitches and reporting them for racism, ya'know, what a person who is chimping out does.

SJWs can't just ignore trolls
they have to dominate
they have to intimidate
they have to have the last word

they think if they link up and scream long and loud enough, everyone will get scared and go away

Maybe if you put your damn links somewhere accessible on your tiny-fonted, non-mobile friendly blogs, people would read them. Maybe if your blacklists weren't over the top ridiculous people would take them more seriously. Maybe if you weren't such an entitled cunt and learned by now that the internet isn't safe for anyone, people would take your rants seriously.

Who's the pretentious and arrogant one, again?
