Anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if the Overwatch fandom had some Steven Universe-level abuse going on to users who ship certain things.

It happens a lot, especially if you like straight ships... And even more if the two people in a straight ship are from incredibly popular Gay(tm) ships.
My best example for this is the abuse the very few Roadhog/Zarya fans get.

I'm guilty of that on the basis that my computer is too slow for the game-- But I at least read the lore and look into the context, which these brats gloss over so long as they can have their gay babus.

As far as shipping goes I personally look at chemistry and aesthetics before the characters' sexualities/genders/whatever. Gay ships, straight ships, I like it all as long as the characters are interesting and are even more interesting when interacting together...
Buuuut since these people can only see these characters' sexualities (if they're gay that's perfect if they're straight we'll make them gay/whatever sexuality is fashionable lately) and not the characters as characters themselves you get this kind of vapid, off-putting squee-fests.

Think you guys missed the funniest part. The question asked was about Ice DANCING and not Figure Skating. Ice Dancing came into the Olympics via ballroom dancing and is (so far as I know) always done in a male/female pairing. Figure skating has male and female solo, pairs one male and one female. Not so w/ice dancing, which is by definition a pairing, at least at the Olympic level. They're basically saying half the participants need to be erased. Or should be. Or something. Anyway, fans of this crap draw a very sharp distinction between the two.

My ex- was massively into this crap and would spend every winter Olympics squeeing over it. Guess I remember more about it than I would have thought.

What's ironic is that this same type of person would probably throw a hissy fit if anyone suggested that they exhibit symptoms of a psychological disorder, and scream "OMG I can't believe you just DIAGNOSED me! You're not a doctor, you have NO RIGHT!!!". Then they'll turn around and insist they're qualified to do the same damn thing because "All doctors do is have you answer a sheet of questions, anyone can do that online and still be valid!".

Those stimboards seem to be popular even amongst the non-autism folks. Mostly they like them for the aesthetic, others because they kinda like the "sensory" aspect of the thing. i wouldn't be surprised if some exceptional had an issue with it, however.
