What's the difference between what they're describing and a critique? It doesn't sound like a person saying, "it's shit" or anything rude, it sounds like they're listing things wrong with the art.

Ya know. Like a critic.

Most of these shitty heacanons and the Down With Cis stuff are also in the Steven Universe fandom and they're still pissy at the SU crew.

Also there's a major character that is male who is funny but has hidden depths to his character and everybody wants to... bone him.

I cringed at #romantic privilege and #sexual privilege. Like, it's really no one's business if you prefer sex or not. It's not really something you want to scream at the top of the world in either case. The #whining tag suits this more. Yikes. Not all asexuals or grey-a's are built the same way. Plenty of them write smut.

You are not "assigned" a gender. Biological sex and gender identity are not the same things.
You are born with either male or female biology.
The doctor records the sex you are born as on your birth certificate. This is necessary because men and women have different medical needs.

If you decided your gender at that age, 99% of babies would be WAAAgender. Which all of Tumblr is, anyways, but point stands.

Man, oh man. Fire up those powerlevel and autistic ratings, because I have some words on fanfic writing.

Erotic fic is a dime a dozen. In a large fandom there is so fucking much of it that looking for a general fic with a good plot and an actual grasp on the characters is difficult. There will always be a demand for it, though, so it's always there. There are people who only want to read smut. And that's fine.

What struck me is the OP saying she had so many people demanding that she write erotica, that she wasn't getting to it fast enough, that they would just stop reading after the sex scene. To me, that signals she may have been competent enough to write the characters in a way that was believable, but her fic was really fucking boring as far as plot was concerned,. Writing the source characters well is a plus, but it's not enough to make a story engaging to the reader. Shit has to be happening. There must be conflict and tension, and there has to be good pacing. With everybody writing fic being amateurs who are basically playing it by ear, it can be hard to get really good feedback.

There are some insanely popular, fandom-defining fanfictions that don't have an ounce of smut in them, and people love them because they're really good (or they're really pandering, but there is good stuff, I swear). Yes, there will be people clamoring for sex, but that's usually because they like the author's work enough that they want to see them try their hand at smut. I imagine for a fandom like Sherlock, which from the outside looks like an insane gaggle of pepetually horny fangirls drooling over British lizard men, there's going to be a higher number of idiots who don't give a shit about a multi-chapter story. My view on fic is that if it's really good, people will find it and read it. If you build it, they will come.

So quit whining about how people wanting smut is oppressing your made-up sexuality of "I don't fuck on the first date" and git gud.

Also if you're only writing certain fics because you feel "pressured," then that's on you. Fanfic exists solely for fun, so if you aren't having fun, then go do something else. Nobody can "make" you do shit.
