They don't want gay characters who are relatable or human, who struggle like normal people. They want to put gays and every other minority on a pedestal as perfect beings so they can feel good about themselves for watching them. That's all that is, just wanting their media to win them brownie points for watching something

They want Mary Sues, that's why. Not just any Mary Sues. Identity Politics Mary Sues. In this way they can vicariously have the feels.

I had this idea some time ago that the reason why they're so obsessed with Mary Sues, defending them and crying when one of their waifus is accused of being one, it's because they use these POC/gay/women characters as self-inserts. Most tumblrinas live mediocre lives and escapism seems to attract them a little too much. They prefer fantasizing about being a hot woman they like that slays dragons over paying a bill, since they think fantasy is just so much easier to deal with than real life. Probably why they hate characters having flaws because then it's much harder to play the self-insert escapism fantasy. They WANT to be Mary Sues in their lives, but they just can't.

well they have days like self insert day where they draw themselfs with the favorite characters in the favorite shows, games,books,etc. So you pretty right about that, that would explain a lot.

Fanfiction writers I can forgive on a case by case basis, sometimes you just want to focus on the positive aspects of a character. Hell, even Jim Butcher's written a few 'fluffy' one shots with Harry just having a pleasant day without much going bad for him
But as for Tumblr paring things down to their least complicated and 'problematic' traits, they just want marshmallow fluff all day every day, without any complicated questions of whether or not the characters are doing the right thing, or if there is even a right thing to do in this situation. They just want fluffy bunnies to make them feel better, which is kind of sad really. I feel bad for Harry Dresden sometimes reading the books, but the reason I feel bad is he's a flawed but likable character, not some perfect innocent.

There's also factkinfessions. It looks like about 95% of the submissions they get are complete jokes but I can't tell if the blog runner is in on the joke or not. Good for a laugh either way because Factkin are still a thing.

If I ever meet anyone irl who claims to be factkin I will personally murder them. I'll also hack their bodies up with a meat cleaver and bury them in several states.

Like Fictionkin, but instead of thinking that you're some fictional character, you're delusional enough to believe that you're a real person. Usually some youtuber or celebrity that's popular with tumblr.
