It's a good general rule not to use medical terms to apply to people, sort of like "Oriental" usually doesn't refer to an Asian person. Still, when distinguishing between heterosexual and homosexual conduct, homosexual is a proper word, as is "same sex."

"Non-binary genders have existed for hundreds of years!!" except that classifying gay men, trans women, and intersex people as "third gender" is actually quite insensitive, but they'll never admit that. Apparently, you have to tolerate the worst part of other cultures or else you're racist and colonialist.

I thought I'd seen most of the gender flavours, but that's stumped me so... wow. "Womanalterous" is my favourite. I'm going to assume it means a woman's anus that's having an affair. Because that is my gender.
About the word "homosexual," I remember in middle school, some LGBT activists came to our class one day. In regards to what terminology to use, they said that they didn't like the term "homosexual" because it sounded too clinical and somewhat outdated (both of the activists were gay). Even if you disagree with their reasoning, they didn't sperg about it or argued that it was a slur. Just that they preferred the term "gay." This was back in 2006.
One of them also mentioned that she didn't like the term "queer" because it was was an actual slur against the gays back in the day. Wonder how she would feel about the growing popularity of that term these days.
Of the people I've seen, those who call "homosexual" a slur also don't like the word "queer", so at least they have some consistancy.
It's up to people to decide what they want to refer to others as, of course, but if they start cutting out words that are literally the dictionary definition then they may have a problem with having any kind of conversation. Particularly if they take it to the tumblr extreme and have a panic attack whenever they hear someone use the bad word.
But aye, people can have preferences. It's another level when they start insisting that everyone else is as sensitive as they are, though. Not every homosexual or transsexual is thin skinned enough to have a breakdown whenever they're referred to by those words. It's kind of their problem if they are.

The tiny amount of English writing on the subject gives off a vibe of "their yin and yang is in balance, how exotic and mysterious!", whereas searching it up in Chinese gives a lot of "yeah that's pretty dated, we call them 'intersex' now, [insert clinical explanation here]". It's some kind of intersection of the white savior mentality and a desperate need to win internet arguments.
