I try to forget that because yelling at people for liking Credence and Graves together is petty as shit

:offtopic:

To be fair FB was entertaining. Characters were compelling, story was alright and open for cash-cow sequels (though I have hope for them being kind of worth it)? The president of the American magic government is a very poised and elegant black lady who was actually really damn interesting to follow as a character. You saw her and thought 'she's the president' rather than 'she's a proud WOC #representation' and that's really nice to witness.

Tumblr's discourse about the movie is that the president is black but way too lightskinned for their tastes, and that anybody who ships Ezra Miller and Colin Farell's characters are literal pedophiles. Also,

Johnny Depp's presence made everybody screech in despair bc the movie came out shortly after he was accused of beating his girlfriend or whatever

I actually saw a fair amount of people fawning over Credence and Graves because ~representation~ despite the fact that it was very clearly an abusive and manipulative relationship.

From a storytelling standpoint, it was excellent, because it gave Graves/Grindelwald that extra little punch of villainous ick-factor. Plus it made good thematic use of Grindelwald's sexuality, and it was a pretty surprisingly ballsy move of JKR to make the villain so obviously gay. For all of her SJW antics on Twitter, she still manages to make her characters people regardless of race/orientation/being a fucking werewolf. (Though she completely butchered American culture in it and I can't quite forgive her for that.)

Tumblr's gonna need a chiropractor with all the desperate reaching they're doing.

My feathers get ruffled every time I see arguments like this for mixed Harry, because Tumblr has no idea how big class is in England; it's usually more of an issue than race. Racism's still a thing, yeah, but Vernon was much more likely to be offended by James Potter being a chav than being Indian.

Lol implying all right-wing are racist while grasping at stereotypes to try to prove a stupid head canon, while also using a term that's basically another way to say "colored people".

At least when right wing people are actually being racist they don't pretty it up with all this flowery bullshit like the SJWs do.

What? You're telling me that white people aren't a monolithic mass? Sexually assault the other leg.

"yo I don't you should force sexualities on young kids"

"UM WOW UR HOMOPHOBIC AND WANNA PUSH HETEROSEXUALITY WHEN THATS WRONG WOW"
Don't average kids just discover their straight more easily than gay kids discover they aren't straight anyway?
Most gay kids spend their childhood years assuming their gay crushes are just thinking someone is cool, mostly because they have a mom and dad, so that means they wanna imitate their parents to a degree as part of regular child development.
Then during or after puberty, the difference between liking someone a lot and being attracted to them becomes too distinct to be ignored. That's how they usually realize they're gay.

For how much these kinds of people believe masculinity is toxic, they sure do screech as loud as they can whenever a probably feminine activity is shittalked.

Arthur discourse is somehow even more obnoxiously self-aggrandizing than I ever expected:

This is a pretty reasonable thing to say, IMO.
View attachment 239724 This is anything but a measured, reasonable response. (Even if you agree with what the dude's saying, the Tumblr-standard smugness is off the fucking charts.)
"Don't sexualize kids."

"ITS OKAY WHEN I DO IT BECAUSE I'M NOT A FILTHY HETERO."

lmfao... its "pedophilia" when 17 & 18 year old cartoon characters are together, but its totes not pedophilia if you talk in depth about how an 8-10 year old is a peter pansexual devant with a daddy kink cause KAWAII GAAAAAAAAYYYSSSSSSS down with those icky cis hets.

Hell I think some Arthur discourse even has freaking tranny headcanons too.

Yes Francine is "suuuper gay a f" cause she's a tomboy. Yes Binky is a "Kawaii gay boi uwu cause" he plays musical instruments and is into ballet.

IMO the tumblr kids that scream "UR A PEDO" are likely growing/are pedophiles themselves since they are so obsessed with the sex lives of children (be they cartoons or real)

Sorry about the sperging but I'm a little sad at the downward spiral that Arthur blog went, another childhood fave cartoon ruined, thanks Tumblr. :c

You know, people love pointing out that Roadhog's nail painting is feminine... When it comes to 'proving' he's 'totally gay you guys!!'

On one hand tumblrina mcgee has half a point: he's def inspired by the metalhead community, nothing about him is feminine or girly, not even the nail polish. But y'know, that's a cherry-picked detail. Tumblr likes to use it to prove he's gay uwu or gender non-conforming uwu when really it's just that he's some fat middle-aged grimy psychopath who listens to too much ACDC and Rammstein

The guy who runs that blog was always liberal-minded, he was normally just smart enough to keep it out of his blog about a kids' cartoon.

In hindsight, I wonder if an incident like this was inevitable.

Also, someone c+ped this post verbatim and sent it to him as an ask:

1. Gay representation in cartoons is at an all-time high, what exactly is this guy's deal again?
2. Who the hell cares about Macklemore anymore?

Special mention goes to that last guy, whose use of capitalization honest to God reminds me of a GoAnimate sped.

According to one of my friends when he was a kid he always preferred the company of other boys to girls and felt like he had some kind of deeper connection to them even though he couldn't comprehend it or understand what it was. Just like everyone else it wasn't until he went through puberty that he realized it was sexual attraction.

So the tl'dr version is no young children shouldn't know what sexual orientation/attraction is and if they do child protective services should probably take a look at that kid's family life.

I think the problem they are not addressing is that it's autistic as hell to be shipping characters from a show like Arthur, regardless of if they're wanting them straight or gay. It's less creepy when they do it to characters in adult media, but they never seem to watch any shows for adults.

Yeah, it's not like any of the kids in Arthur are explicitly straight either. They're all just friends, romance isn't a part of their lives yet.

Admittedly, Arthur has covered some topics that other kids' shows may steer away from, so it would not be too out of the question for them to have a gay character someday (probably an adult), but I don't know if PBS would even let them get away with that.
