Lines of thought that seem normal but are actually rooted in extreme Puritanism:
The goal is to treat sex as just another thing people do. That is a much healthier attitude than hiding it! It’s not uniquely traumatic, it’s not weird to talk about it or include it in society.
- Seeing the nude human body is inherently traumatic
- Sex scenes in art are pointless
- Wearing kink-related clothing in public is the similar to performing a sex scene in front of unwilling participants
- Depicting female characters expressing sexuality is always degrading
- People’s sexual fantasies are always an endorsement of the behavior they want to see in real life
- Sex work is more traumatic and coercive than other types of work
I just think there should be some middle ground between “oh my god sex is so filthy and nudity is so horrible and corrupting” and “I should be allowed to be walked on a leash in public with my dom’s tiddies ready to pop out”. Sex is normal, yes, but it’s something that’s best kept private. Nobody wants to see you or have their children see you in kink gear at the mall or hear you talk about getting railed as if you were describing a trip to the park.

Someone got picked up for flashing, I think, and is trying to justify it without mentioning it by name. Everyone already knows and accepts sex is a part of life, this op is just mad that someone else might define their own terms and rightly call the cops on a flasher but not on a publicly breastfeeding mother.

It’s best not to go down the line of reasoning of “there’s nothing uniquely traumatic about sex and it’s just something people do”, it starts to sound like people who sincerely try to justify pedophilia and that sex is never inherently harmful towards children (looking at you, Amos Yee).
