It's weird how all their examples include mental illness. Calling someone prejudiced for not wanting a literally schizophrenic congressman is delusional.
I don't get this either. How do you represent mental illness? Of all the different groups of people who want representation, mental illness has got to be the hardest one to do tastefully. If their symptoms are mild or it's only mentioned briefly people will say it's not real representation, but then if you have them going on huge manic shopping sprees or gouging their own eyes out it's offensive. And producers are aware that making a non-white or female or gay character mentally ill will not generally be looked fondly upon by those groups.

A stable, medicated character is also boring. What's going to be the character conflict? Getting the A1C's done to check for pre-diabetes? Having to decide which fiber supplement to take for constipation? You can have a gay character without their main defining feature is being gay, but being mentally ill dominates your life.

Mental illness stuff happens to protagonists in dramas, though only temporarily most of the time and is not treated like wacky quirk. The two characters I think of mental illness being a defining feature of a character is Olivia Benson from Law and Order and House. Archer handles the titular character's autism in a tasteful way for a comedy imo.

They can describe it any way they want to. It's still ogling.

This is the hyprocrisy I can't fucking stand. If a man says he likes boobs he's sexist, but if a thristy lesbian decides she wants to grope some random girl or oogle at her it's perfectly okay? Like, what?

When will these people admit that attraction is not a crime? Finding people sexy is not a crime as long as it is not illegal.

Just how straight men find woman sexy and create their power fantasies so do women. As well as LGBT woman. These people seem to have this odd perception that lesbians are pure little waifs that are tainted by straight men. When in reality they're just as horny as them. Only, instead of owning up to their fetishes they just hide behind shaming men to make up for it.

Remember, a man shaming a woman her sexuality and desires is awful, but a woman shaming a straight man for being attracted to skinny women or models is bad. Even if they openly state that's what they like. It somehow hurts lesbians?

That's why the post bugged me. Tumblr is very hypocritical about this kind of thing. I wouldn't like it if a woman or a man started staring at my breasts like a creeper. They can write it any way they want to. It's just as weird as when a man does it. They have this idea that if a woman does it to another woman, it's out of admiration. Let's be real. They're staring for the same reason a man is. Because they perving over a woman's breasts and having sexual feelings over them. If a woman does it it's sweet. When a man does it it's creepy.

I've seen a lot of gay and lesbian Tumblr users add that gif of Jodie Foster (I'm pretty sure that's Jodie) to show their sexuality and it ALWAYS creeps me out because she has to be about 12 years old there.

It creeps me out in general that they always add that underage girl gif to their "I'm so gay" posts.

I remember reading a popular fanfiction mocking a long time ago that criticized how the author was a man blatantly self-inserting as a lesbian to avoid being perceived as creepy. One of the lines they specifically criticized was "I ogled her respectfully". Imagine my shock when it turns out that several thousand Tumblr users do, in fact, believe that you can ogle people respectfully.

That's my favorite part. They act like it's so cute uwu and respectful when a woman is doing it to another woman. Yes- they're doing it because they respect the female form and not because they want to have sex with the woman.
Girl, please.
At least gay men admit they want to fuck the other guy they're eyeing up and down.

Anime avatar is right though. Mental illness and autism are comparable. You have people who are stable and in treatment for mental illness who work hard, contribute to society and take care of themselves. Then you have bipolar cases who burn all their bridges, get high every day, everything around them is on fire and they refuse to change. They are adults and you can force to be compliant. You can only watch them spiral out of control, or enable them and neither of the options really help them.

You also have autistics who got early intervention, are high on the spectrum, are in treatment for their co-morbid mental illnesses, and do great things in the field of their obsessions. On one hand you have pants shitting, low functioning autistics who can only bang their heads against a wall and scream all day. Unlike an unmedicated mentally ill person you are obligated to take care of a low functioning autistic. Getting them into a place that will take them off your hands in unfeasible for most people, when the autistic's parents die, the autistic's siblings will have to care for them. This is a multi decade commitment.

Untreated mental illness is at best an emotional burden, low functioning autism is financial, emotional, and psychical burden. The thing is that your child doesn't even have to be extremely low functioning to be a burden, just look at Chris. He could live on his own and be independent (:optimistic:) if his parent didn't shelter him. The same can be said for mental illness, sometimes treatment doesn't mitigate some's symptoms. I've seen it first hand, and it's horrible.

TL;DR- Mental illness and autism is a spectrum. Some times it can be a burden, sometimes not. Tumblr needs to stop acting like high functioning autism is the only reality, and even then high functioning autistics can still be a drain when they do not get the help they needed.
