This happened in China so many of those phones were likely bootlegs. Good bootlegs made in the very factories that iphones are made in with the same hard and software, but bootlegs none the less. They still hold the value of a real one in China, however. Idk how service providers work there though.

I never got stupid comments like "it's always white people who do this." Not just one race does this. In most cases I've seen, people do it to cope with something bad that just happened to them, but lol- okay. Only one race does it.

TBH it makes me think these people have never gone through a real tragedy in their lives or they don't know how emotions work in humans. LOL, it's probably both. Yeah, it's awkward when customers randomly confess if something is bad in their lives, but they don't do it to be assholes.

To be fair, when you're in a customer service position, just trying to do your job, it is very uncomfortable when a customer unloads something like that on you, especially if they're not a regular. If it's a regular and you see them often, you kind of build up a bit of a repertoire and can do things like have small talk about how they've been lately.

I think, more than anything, if a customer is out of the blue talking to you, a cashier, about this kind of subject matter, it's a sign that they probably don't have many other people to talk to about it, so they go for a captive audience. To me, that just makes things incredibly sad. That person talking to you about their dead kid is an extremely lonely person.

Or they're a crazy liar looking for attention and sympathy. That's also a possibility. I'm pretty sure that's not a trait restricted to white people, though.

No, I understand that it's awkward and people don't know what to say in those situations. However, I understand that some people will come out and confess something bad going on if they're asked how they are. The way I've seen Tumblr users go on about these encounters, they still read to me as people who don't understand how humans behave in bad situations.
Then again most people on Tumblr I've seen sound like really shitty workers if I'm going to be honest.

I agree that a lot of the people who do it can also be lonely people.
