Less cluelessness and more that they have nowhere close to the history America has when relating to racism and/or black people.

They probably should have asked the Americans how it would go over but then again they don't have much reason to suspect that it would be a problem in the first place given the culture.

Clearly they've never watched the Pokemon show otherwise they'd know Jessie, James and Meowth are 'autistic' since they always go after the same pikachu no matter what. Or that the player in the games is autistic because they never have any speaking text and want to collect all the pokemon. Or, maybe you don't read to into a children's game and just either enjoy it or shut up.

Usually they try and play like it's a joke but they actually believe it deep down, which is why they take people disagreeing with them so seriously.

It's a Medium article that quotes a Mary Sue article, no less. Multiple layers of non-journalism.

The dude who originally said that was actually a scenery designer for Metroid, but he was making a flippant joke in response to an interview question he didn't know how to answer. It's amusing how many people have rationalized what's pretty much a tranny joke as positive trans representation.
