Craig Bartlett included a gay reoccurring character (Mr Simmons) who was very likable in a time when 'gay' characters were either predators or jokes. But yeah, he made a girl character have a crush on a boy so he's homophobic I guess.

Of course, that was only inferred and never actually mentioned on the show because you couldn't do that back then. Doesn't mean he's a homophobe, though.

Wasn’t it an actual thing in real life many years ago, but it ended up being a sort of precursor to the idea of being trans? I remember someone on here said something along those lines but I don’t remember who or what thread
There's been some debate over whether historical females who lived as men and married women would be considered trans men in modernity, or if they were butch lesbians trying to avoid persecution. Regardless of whichever one's more true, it's only superficially related to the current trend of deliberately nonconformist butch lesbians in gay-friendly countries demanding he/him pronouns.

In some cases, probably neither. They just wanted to do something women weren't allowed to do or where women's clothing wasn't practical for doing it. Jeanne d'Arc wasn't trans, you just don't go into battle in a billowing dress.

It's such a contentious topic because bodily dysphoria is well-documented, at least casually, among butch lesbians. It's not weird at all, in lesbian circles, to be a butch who doesn't want her chest or genitals touched, or actively seeks aggressive breast reductions, or goes exclusively by a male name, or refer to themselves as "guys", or any combination or extention of the above.

Some pass as men and still call themselves butch lesbians. So I guess when you're that far down the rabbit hole, what you label yourself as is a matter of semantics more than anything else.

I'd guess at least a portion of FtMs are similarly afflicted because positive butch role models are rare these days.

True, actual butch lesbians of that type definitely exist. The problem is that the current "he/him lesbian" crowd are, of course, not like that at all. They just want to play the genderfluid pronoun game, and look about as masculine as any of the other girls on tumblr. The fact that a lot of that group considers "butch" to mean "wears flannel sometimes" is probably par for the course by now.

It's a popular tumblr thing, pointing at a tiny minority or single example of something and saying "See? It's real. So I can do it too". Even if it doesn't actually apply to them, they insist that if you criticise them, then you're also criticising the unarguably legit people (who they copied the idea off in the first place). Therefore your criticism is invalid.
See also: (gay) men who are effimate or cross-dress ("See? So transmen can do it too and are just as valid!"), autists who use stim toys ("because I'm autistic, you can't think it's weird that I wear a chew toy in public even though I otherwise function normally"), mixed or otherwise non-white people who look white at a glance ("I'm 1/16 native so I am POC and oppressed even if I don't look it"), and so on and so forth.

It's basically a hive of "Oh, I can apply that to me and get oppression points" combined with a lot of them going through those teenage years where everyone things they're more special or hard done by than the rest of the world. I guess the real problem is when they don't leave that crowd, stay surrounded by the same people, and keep believing that shit well into adulthood.
The fact that there's an attitude of "you're not allowed to have an opinion on X thing unless you're part of X group" probably doesn't help, either, especially if you need to be part of the woke crowd to fit in.

The same morons who got mad at people saying "Ah, Carol Danvers smiling at Thor is cute, they'd be cute together" because SHE IS A STRONG WAHMEN WHO NEEDS NO MAN are forcing a gay relationship between Jacksepticeye and Markiplier despite they're both straight, have girlfriends, and are in fact real people with real agency who've specifically asked their fans to NOT do this.

Heh.

if u weren't such a bitch they would've have apologized i'm sure. you are not exempt from not being a bitch just because you're in a wheelchair.

these people really don't watch any other movies.

Ironically, one of their criteria for a woman protagonist, "has no love interest at all," is exactly what incels with animated waifus insist on because if she has a love interest they feel like they're somehow cucked by a fictional character, and sometimes throw elaborate tantrums about it.

Can we all agree that the black and brown stripes on the gay flag are pointless and ugly at best, and downright insulting at worst?
Yep, it's either saying only black people deserve to be in the LGBT community, or calling all black people gay. I don't get it, your race and your sexual orientation have nothing to do with each other.

Or on the other hand it's implying that LGBT people as a whole are/were racist when it's, like you said, two things that have zero correlation. Unless you think that guys putting "no asians" or "no blacks" on their grindr profiles indicates a community-wide problem.

Also, they're taking away from.
the original meaning of the black stripe, which was to honor those in the community that died from complications with HIV/AIDS. They turned a symbol of mourning into an ugly and exceptional virtue signal, and it makes me so angry.
