LOL, gay people on Kiwifarms need to tell me if this is true.

Am gay, have no fucking clue if this is true, but sounds heavily exaggerated.

Percy Jackson spergs manage to be worse than Harry Potter spergs on a regular basis, which is really saying something.
I remember that when the fandom really took off, so did the shipping wars. The fandom seemed to violently hate people who shipped Percy and Rachel and made them the fandom punching bags. Constantly sending them hate, calling them names, publicly mocking them, stealing peoples' art and making hate edits out of it, suicide baiting, you name it, they did it. It was like near-Voltron levels of bullshit, I swear. Not to mention that anyone who had even a slight criticism of the series or its sequels were lynched for saying so, even if they were a fan.

The combo of the fandom being utter shit and Rick Riordan going Ultra Woke™ ended up making me leave the entire community out of sheer frustration. It's a shame, considering the first series is genuinely good and was my absolute favorite as a tween, but now it's just got so many bad memories attatched to it that it's been soured for me.

Percy Jackson reminds me of the time at school the "senior year" at my school did a charity dress up for Halloween. Mind you this is in the UK and we had a uniform so not wearing uniform was always exciting and fun.

One girl, a massive stupid autist, fixated on her failing "nerdy gorl" persona, who spoke about her fanfiction loudly in class and was overall a general shit person came in wearing jeans and a hoodie but with a camp half blood t shirt on. She got in trouble for not taking the dress the seriously and cried cos she was obviously a character from Percy Jackson. Everyone else tried really hard and she just took the piss.

Wait, what was their preferred pairing? Percy and Annabeth? Percy and...Nico? I don't see how Percy and Rachel is problematic, although I've only read the original series and not recently.

Same here. I learned to just not bother with "fandom" nonsense at all since the bullshit sucks all the enjoyment out of the thing. Fandoms are weird, honestly, instead of talking about the book/show they like, it's built around policing each other and being miserable fucks for some reason.

I never read the sequel series, but apparently there's a muslim character and genderfluid character tossed in for woke points, and Riordan felt the need to constantly remind the reader that they are minorities instead of developing them.

EDIT: On the subject of stupid shipping nonsense, here's the biggest overreaction I've seen in a while:

Yeah, Percy and Annabeth/Percy and Nico were the two main pairings that everyone liked. Neither really appealed to me so I was a massive outsider in the fandom from the get-go.

Yeah, the genderfluid character was the most forced, 3edgy5me mary sue bullshit. I dropped the series as soon as she was introduced.

The Muslim character also never made sense to me. Why does she continue worshipping Allah if she knows for a fact that her dad is a literal god? Why did her Good Muslim Girl™ mother sleep with a dude she'd just met out of wedlock? And more importantly, why the fuck did Rick Riordan put the 14 year old Muslim character into an arranged marriage with a (distant) relative and try to frame that as 100% okay and empowering?? What the fuck??

I remember a tumblr post jilling about how Riordan Tricked Disney Into Accepting Minority Characters, and this stuff isn't mentioned there, at all.

This is what you end up with when you care so much about diversity you forget to make sure it makes sense

I haven't read all of the books, but to be fair, the first book does address the question of what Greek gods being a thing means for Christianity, and iirc, its handwaved away as "metaphysics". So the existence of the Greek pantheon neither confirms or disproves Christian ideas. I would assume the same would be true for Islam.

Though I can't remember any of the half-blood characters in the parts of the series I read ever expressing any serious Christian beliefs, so...

First time I check on FandomsAndFeminism after years. Good to see she's still an entitled bitch who treats her ~queer headcanons as canon and gets utterly butthurt when she doesn't get her way.

Speaking of Fandomsandfeminism this is my favorite classic slap fight. Best part is that the angry woc, Captain Sway was a huge lolcow in the Doctor Who fandom that made an entire blog bitching about Moffat. Most of it was full of misinformation, interviews taken out of context, and looking to be offended at everything and anything about Moffat. Followers of said blog harassed Moffat off Twitter and even sent death threats to an actress who defended him. Despite all of this she claimed she wasn’t involved in the incident yet refused to call out the toxic fans who did it. It was obvious she was lying about her lack of involvement in the incidents.

Worst part was she had a ton of influence and followers in the Tumblr part of the fandom and a lot of the misconceptions about Moffat could be traced back to her and her friends. I am aware Moffat is very divisive but the anti crowd was awful back in the day, even going as far as to harass fans of his work.

She also flipped out over a WoC dying on Hannibal and tried to go on a one man crusade on Tumblr and Twitter harassing the show runner and trying to get it canceled. It was funny.
