What is it about this Steven Universe show that makes Tumblr absolutely insane? I think we need a thread for it.

Basically, people are claiming the co-pilot was a terrorist. Mass-murderer? Yes. His actions are reprehensible and even though he was depressed that doesn't excuse him. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together can realize these things. Terrorist? No. He had no ulterior motive, religious/political/what have you, from what we know now the guy wanted to die, just in a really outstandingly, horrifically fucked-up way.

So white people are terrorists incapable of suffering on Tumblr dot com and in the media anyone with mental health issues should never be trusted to work ever and the stigma surrounding it all only worsens (as if it wasn't bad enough to begin with).

Alright, let me put on my amateur aviation historian hat. I'm going to go through a list of notable pilot/employee murder/suicide attempts and successes and mention race, since they find it so important.

EgyptAir 990: an Egyptian with no mental health issues but rather a desire for revenge against his company for a lack of promotion/removal of privileges crashes a plane into the Atlantic.

SilkAir 185: a Singaporean with a survival guilt issue and under crippling debt crashes his plane into a river in Indonesia.

Pacific Southwest 1771: a black man upset that he was fired from the airline for petty theft uses his ID to get past security with a gun. He shoots his boss on the plane, kills a flight attendant, the two pilots, and someone trying to stop him. He crashes the plane going mach 1 into a hill in California.

FedEx Flight 705: a white disgruntled FedEx employee attempts to hijack a flight with the intention of flying it into FedEx headquarters. He is stopped partially by an injured captain using the plane as a weapon to keep him off balance as he fought with the co-pilot.

So if they want to make it about race, only one of the people who did this before was white. I didn't even include a few others. But the problem here was mental health and a man trying to hide it from his employer. Oh, and all the people I mentioned above are treated as mass murderers/attempted mass murders.

Periods, like other natural processes, are not shameful and unfortunately they are treated as such. Just because something is natural doesn't make it clean and pure (which Tumblr, among others, seem to forget). Ya know, it's on a level of grossness between urine and feces, and I am sure Instagram doesn't allow photos containing those or other substances on the site.

I have puked before. It's a natural process of the human body. However, if I took photos of it, posted them on a public site, and spoke at length about the beauty of it, people would think I needed a helmet. They would be justified in this, because that's fucking gross, and shouldn't be shared with the world.

Roughly 1000 bc the kingdom of israel existed with the religion we now know as Judaism,The people in this kingdom are known as 'israelites'. In the 930's BC it split into two successor states. The Kingdom of Israel to the North and the Kingdom of Judah or Judea in the south. the northern kingdom fell in the 700's but judea survived until the 500's. Jew was originally the term used to describe the inhabitants of this second kingdom.

Under the maccabees dynasty this kingdom was reformed in the 140's and expanded to reabsorb much of the original kingdom of israel. eventually the area became the roman province of judea. the inhabitants of the province were by this time known as jews (from judea). though they seem to have retained the name israel as a geographic term.

Jerusalem was the capital of first the old kingdom of Israel, then Judea then the maccabeean state and roman province. following a disastrous rebellion the romans forced many jews into exile across europe. Over time the word changed to mean someone who followed the old religion rather than someone who was from judea.

so today anyone from israel,regardless of religion, could be considered an Israeli.
Historical figures from the old kingdom are Israelites.
People who follow the former state religion of the israelites are Jews regardless of ethnic origin.
People from jerusalem would be some variant of salemite or jerusalemite however in practice people in that city tend to identify along religious rather than cultural or political lines.

back on topic and im amazed at how constantly miserable so much of tumblr is. The level of infantilisation is also quite frankly disturbing. As someone who hasn't watched childrens cartoons since i was a child, seeing grown women get up in arms over childrens TV is absolutely bizzarre. Its also really creepy how they try and read all this stuff about sex and gender politics into kids shows. david raimer shit right there.

the naked racism and sexism is too me less shocking than the ignorance. As others have said between Jaimas' excellent oppression flow chart and the echo chamber effect i can understand how the identity politics seeped in even if i still think its disgusting but the willfull ignorance on some of these posts is just something else.

I consider myself extremely privileged when they claim that its not their place to 'educate' us patriachs because what they do isn't 'education' but brainwashing.

Yeah, we do. I think a big part of the reason Tumblr goes crazy for it is because it's one of the few shows that comes close to meeting Tumblr's nigh-unachievable standards for diversity. It's a genuinely good show, but the fandom is quickly becoming Tumblr's answer to bronies in terms of sheer insanity. A good portion of Tumblr's Lolcows are rabid Steven Universe fans.
