Random Tumblr posts

Yeah, we do. I think a big part of the reason Tumblr goes crazy for it is because it's one of the few shows that comes close to meeting Tumblr's nigh-unachievable standards for diversity. It's a genuinely good show, but the fandom is quickly becoming Tumblr's answer to bronies in terms of sheer insanity. A good portion of Tumblr's Lolcows are rabid Steven Universe fans.
Something notable with the SU fandom like others have mentioned is how badly they treat the staff. There are several incidents of death threats and harassment, and one fan actually sent hatemail to someone who worked on the show's actual house IIRC. Not even bronies did that when that show had a major shift, and they did it over a continuity error.

Which is amazing because if Bronies had ever gotten that far, those same people would be calling for them to be tarred and feathered.

But it's okay when they do it, though.

Holy shit. I didn't know death threats to staff were involved. Anyone got a source for that?

@Gensdupays I wholeheartedly support the idea of a Steven Universe thread. There's totally enough material for one, and gosh dang, it just keeps comin'!

If you guys can come up with a good enough OP post and plenty of material for a Steven Universe fandom thread, I don't see why not.

I found a bunch of articles summing it up, but there doesn't seem to be an end as long as the show is going.

I know there's a post somewhere about all the salt over this one event, plus more cosplay racism drama as well as the creator's porn she drew and so much more. That's not even taking into account the "SO IMPORTANT" posts and the death threats.

honestly i'd 100% rather never have periods again, "giving in to the patriarchy" be damned. fuck periods. fuck 'em.
No, no, your extremely painful cramps are a beautiful thing, evidently. You've just internalized the oppression or some shit.

You know one of the main proponents of this Tracey Emin, the one who pissed the bed an called it art? Well I got to see that thing on a school trip an it fucking stunk an not in the bad art way either the smell of funky piss an other crap made me want to puke.
The death of real art was the exact second that someone realized you could fuck a rag doll on stage, call it art, and claim that anyone who didn't get it just "couldn't appreciate the nuances". Take this for instance: http://nypost.com/2013/05/15/43-8-million-for-this/
That's a painting of a single line on a blue background. It sold for $43.8 million.

That's nothing compared to what the staff of the actual show drew. Let's just say that pairing characters together was pretty common.
It's not uncommon for many cartoons actually. I still remember when Mainframe's staff leaked Beast Wars pin-ups with dicks on official models. Art people in general are a bit fucked up.

I've seen one picture in particular that was really fucked up. As in, I can't believe it was drawn by someone on the staff I'm trying to find a way to be subtle about it but click the spoiler if you want to know:

It was Eddy's big brother violently raping Edd in the ass with blood everywhere.

As an art people, I can confirm this.

Please do not judge, it comes with the territory. :( :heart-empty:
I believe it. But it makes it funny when you've got fans who are so anti anything sexualized and the person who made their show didn't stop at artistic nudity. And generally just having to deal with such an overly-protective and obnoxious fandom is probably a mix of hilarious and scary to them. I mean you've got them being upset at new fans potentially being interested in the show on one end and them sending death threats on the other.

Honestly, I have not seen a big push on the internet for not sexualizing a show before the anti-brony pushback, and then it felt like it was more to spite a largely male fanbase drawing porn of male characters rather than a female base drawing porn of male characters. Like, bronies were encroaching upon their territory.

The creators of the shows never really care all that much; some of them are even flattered. Disney animators know about porn people draw. Plenty of professional animators have drawn porn themselves, including quite a bit of Rule 34. It's hardly shocking, in fact it's normal as fuck.

My problem is that these people are hypocrites because the boys came in to play.

It's like these guys don't even know the Tiny Toons fandom in the 90's was even a thing.

It's pretty ironic too. I see women drawing porn of Transformers bitching about men drawing porn of ponies, as if sexualizing toy robots for boys is ok and "strong indipendant women showing her power through sexuality" via Megatron raping Starscream, but don't you fucking dare draw a pony or you're "misogynistic scum who's stealing a show from young girls, and a rapist pedophile."

Most of the R34 producers before bronies were women anyway. They don't seem to get that. I honestly think that if the fandom were as big, but completely Tumblr-dominated, it would have a pretty similar amount of porn.

And even then with all of this porn, who really fucking cares what artists draw? If they want to draw it, they should be able to.

I do enjoy the modern idea that cartoons are a finite resource and one group can take it from another because it's hilarious to me.

R34 art seems to have a more even split between male and female artists. Fanfiction, though? That is dominated by women.

And I'm not sure about that part about the amount of MLP porn being the same if it were solely on Tumblr. MLP's tag on Paheal is the second largest tag on the entire site, dwarfed only by Pokemon, a franchise that's been around since 1995 (at least in Japan).

The sheer amount of pony porn is unlike anything even Tumblr could produce on their own, and there's so many artists churning out work of varying quality for every single character in the series, as well as OCs.

I'm pretty sure Bronies might have outdone the Superwholocks in term of smut output. And that is a goddamned accomplishment.

oh, oooh! can i have the honor of putting up the SU lolcows thread?

or at least helping because i am very much involved in the fandom. i'll type properly, i promise! ;)
Go nuts. Just remember your choice in favorite gem is bad and you should feel bad.

So maybe it's jealousy a bit? I think if it were easier to draw/share art during the time Pokemon came out we would have gotten about the same amount of content in the same amount of time MLP gave. It took 15+ years to get to that level because the tech had to catch up.

Maybe. I think bronies are pretty dedicated to making their porn, though, and if you have Flash assets for the characters, that takes out a lot of extra work.
