I’ve never heard specifics but a lot of evidence points to a form of folie a deux with his wife. I mean they both have mental issues but by joining forces they went turbo charged crazy. Evie always had a batshit reputation but she was a 1980’s model and you get the sense Randy thought he had really scored landing her as a wife - even if she was crazy and spent all his money.

I always got the sense Randy struggled with depression or some other issues but managed, and lived in the shadow of his good looking, coked out, famous older brother. Randy got to be the funny character actor. I mean shit, the guy started his career in The Last Picture Show, then The Last Detail and Midnight Express but ended up famous to most as Uncle Eddie from the Vacation series.

Oh, yeah, lots of substance abuse. His wife was a big coke head too. You got the impression that most of Quaid’s money was wasted on blow, booze and his wife’s clothes.

(And quite a bit of money too because he had a very comfy career for twenty years, but once he started acting strange, gigs dried up and the money started getting tight the crazy kicked in to high gear)
 
He was talented. That's damned sad.

He'll probably end up being either a "Happy and healthy again!" headline on the cover of People or a black and white picture with a black border and bits of "oral history" about his decline in Rolling Stone.

I think he just doesn't care anymore. With his residuals from the Vacation movies and Independence Day that's got to be a decent amount for retirement.

I remember reading that the money Jesse Ventura gets for Predator paid for his retirement and his family's insurance.
