Raya and the last dragon - A half decent trailer for most likely a mediocre film that will still get a billion dollars

So I’m visiting my nieces and they turned this movie on, and holy hell do I see why this wasn’t that well received. Two or three separate “this is the setup for the plot” with fairly series tones, then the dragon shows up and it’s suddenly wisecracking modern slang hijinks.

I cannot tell what this movie is going for.
Sounds like it has the exact same problem Hunchback did: wildly varying tone between scenes.

They probably cast Awkwafina for name recognition like every animated movie does these days. We should count ourselves lucky the dragon wasn't voiced by Rebel Wilson or Samantha Bee.

The problem is, no one even knows who she is. She had that show on Comedy Central that probably didn't do well because they haven't advertised a second season. Lucy Liu would've been a better choice, she was actually popular at one point in time, so her name is recognizable.
