Ready Player One

In case anybody missed it, Tracer from Overwatch somehow is ALSO in this. People speculate it's because of something to do with what went on behind the scenes in making that forgetable Warcraft film, since they're both Blizard titles.

>implying people will remember overwatch in 2040-something

This is what they're working with? https://twitter.com/weeabob/status/940868084323274752
GIRUGAMESH!
Ken-sama shitpost level.

I actually liked the book, and thought the first trailer was kind of cool. But I'm also one of the four people on the planet who liked Sucker Punch, so WTFDIK. It is quite possible that me liking something is its kiss of death.

That second trailer, though. Seems to have even less to do with the book than the first trailer, and also looked like it was thrown together by Milo Stewart for her YouTube channel. You'd think something Spielberg related would at least have good production values, wouldn't you?

If you liked Sucker Punch, then I can see why you'd like the trailers for RP1 - it's insane visual spectacle on a level not seen in ages.

This movie makes me sad, because Spielberg is my favourite director and I like the 80s media (and hate people cash-grabbing on this decade and diminish the values of it only to "omg, nostalgia"). I only hope it will be so bad that we end that "pop culture reference! Easter Egg! Look! REFERENCEEE" trend in media that is geting out of control. And in my opinion is hurting referenced media more than paying a tribute.
But at the same time I'm a bit afraid that this is beginning of the anti-nostalgia wave, you know "if you like something older than 10 years you must be blinded by nostalgia" oposite of "90s kids" but just as annoying.

And please, if this is going to have obligatory Sailor Moon parody transformation I'm gonna scream in wrath.

An is the book new Twilight when it comes to hatedom?

You know something is wrong when people are pissed because something they like is referenced in other media instead of happy...

Better torture him until he will make another good movie.

Think of it like this. If someone handed you a big plate of your favorite donuts, you'd be happy, right? Even if maybe you weren't really in the mood for donuts right just then? Well, in this analogy, we're looking at

^ Not so much in recent years, a lot of big movies have been released in March.

2017's #2 film at the domestic box office was the Beauty and the Beast live-action remake, which earned $504 million in the United States and Canada and another $760 "overseas", and it was a March release.

In 2016, both Zootopia and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice were March releases that crossed the $300 million domestic box office mark.

Problem is ONLY ONE of those movies is any good - you know which one, too.

I'm not huge on being taken out of one story via a huge reference to another story, regardless of how much I like it. Plus, it instantly connects the two things in my head.

Zootopia is the only one of those three I've seen. (Without resorting to piracy) I could watch Beauty and the Beast on Netflix if I wanted to, but I just haven't been in the mood to watch what I understand is essentially the same movie as the 1991 version just with real people and CGI instead of (mostly) hand-drawn cel animation. I don't think Batman v Superman ever showed up on Netflix Canada (which means it's probably on one of the competitors like Crave TV or Amazon).

The book was incredibly stupid and shitty. Lots of lazy name dropping, highschool level writing and hilariously dumb scenes like the one where MC btfo's the bully and everybody claps. I hope they include the reveal regarding one of the characters near the end because that shit was fucking hilarious.
And, no surprise, the author is a rather exceptional individual as well - he wrote a 'poem' about 'Nerd porn' and it's atrocious.

This movie might end up looking cool but this doesn't change the fact that it's going to be a huge pile of pandering trash for people that like to jerk off to the 80s and think they're cool because they understand a few references.

I enjoyed the book when I read it a few years ago. I accepted a lot of its cliches because I thought it was intentionally aping the trash media it was worshipping and I thought the excessive name dropping was meant to illustrate the sadness of a dystopian culture built around the worship of said trash culture. Then I read some excerpts from Cline's second novel and realized that that's just his style. Now I can't think of the book without the image of a parent shaking their keys in front of a baby's face. That being said, Spielberg did make a masterpiece out of the completely disposable novel of Jaws. I'm not so optimistic with this one. Looking forward to seeing if Alan Silvestri can recapture some of his 80s glory with the music.

Don't forget the masturbation scene that goes on and on.
