Dear god it's gotten worse.

Main character was helped out by a toon. Main char confesses to be familiar with that sexuality, since he's a coomer and beat off to tons of troon porn.

I got a chapter of feminist frequency criticisms of motherfucking Princess Kurumi.
Now it's going on and on about how 'Ducky' from Pretty in Pink is a horrible homophobic creeper.

I just wanted a story where the guys from Halo team up with Battletoads and Voltron to defeat Skeletor again.
 
The weirdest thing, I find, is how utterly disinterested Wade and his gang seem to be in improving the world. Wade, especially, seems to not care at all about making the real world any better, despite him having more money than God. Apart from a few throwaway mentions of various charities, most of which seem only interested in bringing more people into the OASIS so they can "escape their miserable lives". Cline's idea of charity isn't improving the lives of people, but giving them a means to be superficially happy and distracted from their misery. It's bread and circuses, but without even the bread.

Give a man a fish you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll never be hungry again. Or you could give him some heroin so he doesn't care how hungry he is.
 
All I know is that Ernest Cline singlehandedly destroyed fine novel writing with his explanation of characters through pop culture references without any plot or characterization. He has single handedly caused much more damage than the Twilight author ever would.

What is this bullshit, I said like Cassandra in DA2. I chuckled like Elmo reading NoFreePasses benign comment. It was as benign as the Body Wars ride in Disney World. No it was like the tumor extraction they did on that episode of ER i saw last week. I was wearing my sailor moon shirt and my sonic slippers. It's rumored that Ernest Cline knows the right people in the right places. He is a friend of Harry Knowles, who at one point had ties to actual people in the entertainment industry, so it's possible Cline simply called up a friend who was able to get him a book deal.

I doubt Spielberg would've made a movie out of Ready Player One if the book didn't end up a bestseller. Teens and young adults tend to enjoy trash anyway. This is the same demographic that made Harry Potter and Twilight into household names back in the 2000's and did the same for The Hunger Games in the early 2010's.

I think most connections the guy made were when he wrote the script for the Fanboy movie and as it was being filmed he met the right people during the whole thing. Cause the dude is from Austin Texas, and from what I get it's easy to make a name for yourself there.

Like I said one of Spielberg's first big gigs as a director was jaws. He read Benchleys novel and more or less hated it because everyone was an asshole in it, Brody, Hooper, Quint, the mayor by the time he was through it the only character he didn't hate was the shark itself.


Spielberg pretty much flipped Benchleys book on its head and made so you liked the human characters and wanted to see them succeed and kill the shark. That and cutting out the unnecessary bits like the debt to the mob subplot certainly helped.

You could argue he did the same here by trimming all the filler that wasn't needed and reworking the story into something more cohesive than Kline making refferene overdosed word salad every few pages. While trying to recapture the style he and a lot of his peers had in the actual 80s. (Joe Dante, Richard Donner, Nick castle)


I'm just wondering if they're gonna bother making a film version of this book since space jam 2 is already trying to be a ready player two just with only Warner characters so they don't have to split the profits with legendary or amblin.

Wade says in the first book that his dream purchase if he had All The Money was a spaceship to get off the planet with The 1% of geniuses required to start a new civilization elsewhere and abandon Earth forever. Since he can't escape real life, he would rather leave Earth to rot.

The closest I can 'excuse' him in this book is that Wade is suffering from the worst case of getting blueballed since his girlfriend dumped him after knowing who he was for a week over him wanting to be even more addicted to their VR devices, so he's gone into ultraprick selfish bastard mode, with shit like 'stalking everyone who says anything bad about him, her, or his friends and ruining their games'. So it makes sense that his charity service is 'make more kids into me', because he's a dumbfuck.

That doesn't mean approval; this book was painful to read through and I hate it.

Ready Player One did seem like what Hollywood thinks all “nerds” should be like in 2018. I think the book could have been interesting if it did talk about how nerd culture is turning people into rabid consumers and popular culture phonies who only look at science as pop psychology.

If anything, the fanbase surrounding the book and film made me find it too disengaged and insufferable, if we’re being honest.

I've read through this whole thread. I'm vaguely familiar with Ready Player One. It's not worth my time, is it? It already sounds cringey beyond belief!
 
I have never read that as I hate the author, and idk on translation quality, but Pelevin's "Prince of Central Planning" is about similar autismu, but with WAY less cringe. Read that instead.

The movie is comfy trash, everything speeds along nicely and it's over before it becomes tiresome. The book is painful, the 372pages.com guys dissected it throughly and made it less difficult to get through.
 
I'm quite confused RN, not gonna lie. Ready Player Two was not very good, and I say that as somebody who was a fan of the first book. What exactly is being promoted here? The book was published almost a year ago, and there's no movie deal out there I can see. Now or ever. And since I'm not nine years old I don't play Roblox. 🤷‍♂️ Twitter / Archive

This book came out more than two years ago, 372 pages podcast blasted through it but there’s a podcast that’s struggling to finish it all this time later. Yiu can hear them losing hope and falling into despair with each episode that comes further and further apart.
