If you ever wanted to know what Nationalist Oi! and Post-Hardcore with an Emo influence sounded like together, look no further than Eastern Youth's self-titled album from 1993:
Prior to becoming a household name in the Indie Rock scene and opening for acts as big as Jimmy Eat World, Eastern Youth arose from Japan's Samurai Spirits Skinhead scene. Unlike others in their scene who took inspiration from Great Britain's RAC skinhead scene, Eastern Youth fused their style of Street Punk with the anxious sounds of DC's Post-Hardcore scene. Uncompromising and Nationalist as fuck, aggression packed tunes like "死刑台に送り込め" ("Capital Punishment"), "守るべきものは何か" ("What We Protect") and "飼い主を噛み殺せ" ("Bite Your Master") deliver tons of hooks that are guaranteed to keep even the most skeptical intrigued.
It's refreshing when Nationalist music takes inspiration from outside their usual comfort zones.
They ALL hated the emo label honestly. I think we've all seen that clip of Gerard Way saying it's bullshit
Also I know MCR isnt even considered real emo but I'm linking my favorite song from them so you guys give it a listen because this one fits totally into the thread. The lyrics are kind of forgettable but the vocals at the end are really good. Reminds me of Mom Jeans.
Personally I don't really care for the intricacies of hyper-specific genre categories; as long as the music is good it's fine by me whatever name you give it
