Too tired to go over the full history of this shit At the moment, and I've got stuff going on in the background, but here fucking goes: The ONLY vtuber thread that matters.
People claim very frequently that the annoying orange was "the first vtuber". These people are wrong, as there was no live content for the majority of his time of popularity. You know what does fit though? MARIO. Specifically real time mario, a livestream that nintendo would set up at press events and conventions with the guy who voices mario hooked up to what in decades to come would be referred to as a 3D vtuber rig.
Clips of this specific Mario rig were used bizarrely in games like "Mario teaches typing 2"
You can really see the vtuber look solidify in the one they used during the gamecube/wii era.
Occasionally Wario, Luigi, or Donkey kong would make appearances, with the earlier wario appearances becoming a cryptid style meme a few years ago.
