Recently a site in Coolock in North Dublin was the source of a major riot after a protest against the conversion of an abandoned paint factory into an asylum center meant to hold at least 500 asylum seekers/migrants via the International Protection Accommodation Service. Coolock is a depressed working-class area with a known reputation for a rough 'scumbag' character and contempt for the police (lots of bad drug use in North Dublin in general).

There was a makeshift barricade and protest camp set up on the site to block any government workers or contractors to enter the site to set up the asylum center. It was only recently where the barricade was forcibly taken down by the Gardai and Public Order Units prompted a protest that blocked off the main road where an excavator was set on fire and other vehicles damaged where a pile of pallets were set against the building entrance was set alight. This drew a much larger Garda presence and a crowd of protestors near the site sadly turned more violent at approx. 6pm today.

The violence has dragged on all day today. I've tried to collect some articles and threads on r/Ireland and r/Dublin ( insane lefty shitholes btw ) about it. Ireland had seen a growing trend of violence aimed at these asylum accommodation centers as more right-leaning or even ethnonat types see them as a neo-Plantation, the British deliberately "planted" non-Irish immigrants in Ireland to solidify their hold over the island due to fears of a threat to security ever arising from the island after the repercussions of the Reformation surged across Europe (Ireland remained majority Catholic as England became Protestant). Right-wing to extreme right people see this trend replayed with modern mass migration and the Government and typically left-leaning people strenuously deny this and decry this as racist and fascist agitation while near fifth of the total population is either foreign or foreign-born and the crisis on housing demand and supply continues along with high cost of living. Tragically, a police officer stationed to police the protest was seriously injured and had to be hurriedly taken out by med-evac. The tension over immigration in Ireland will remain strained as the Government, particularly Minister for Integration Roderic O'Gorman (a queer homosexual from the Green Party) and Minister for Justice McEntee seem dead set to continue their immigration and asylum policy especially the advent of the EU Migration Pact.

The vast majority of people in Ireland have a really good standard of living so they don't care about some desperate foreigner trying to get into the country to avail of the booming economy/ridiculously generous welfare system.

The current government parties dominated the recent local/EU elections despite twitter thinking there would be a hard shift to anti-immgration/nationalist candidates.

Man jailed for sexually assaulting a woman after following her for 30 minutes​

A man who sexually assaulted a young woman in Dublin city centre after following her around for half an hour as she tried to get away from him has been jailed for two years and three months.


Adel Kerai (26) had just arrived in the Republic of Ireland five days earlier when he saw the 22-year-old woman waiting for her boyfriend outside a store on O'Connell Street and decided he “fancied” her, Dublin Circuit Criminal Court heard.

Kerai, of no fixed abode in Dublin 1, pleaded guilty to one count of sexually assaulting the woman on Henry Street on December 10th 2023. He is originally from Algeria and is seeking asylum in this country, defence counsel said.

The woman was on the phone to her boyfriend at the time, which was around 11pm, the court heard. Kerai approached the woman and started speaking to her, managing to hang up her phone in the process, Garda Stephen Conran told Patrick McCullough BL, prosecuting.


The woman started walking towards the GPO and then turned down Henry Street in an effort to get away from Kerai, but he followed her and put his arm around her shoulders.

They walked down to the end of Henry Street, with the woman still trying to shake off Kerai.


The incident culminated in Kerai trying to kiss the woman, putting his hand down her top and touching her genital area over her clothes before pressing his erect penis against her.


The woman tried to push Kerai off, but he was too strong, the court heard. At that point, her boyfriend phoned her back and a passer-by came to her aid when they saw she was crying. Two gardai on foot patrol also noticed something was amiss and came on the scene.

Prosecution counsel said the entire incident lasted for 30 minutes, with portions of the offence captured on CCTV.


Kerai was arrested at the scene and has been in custody ever since. He had no passport or official documents to show gardaí and initially gave a different name and date of birth.

He has four previous convictions from the UK, where he was living for one year prior to coming to Dublin. He is originally from Algeria and is seeking asylum here on the basis that he was persecuted for his political beliefs.


A victim impact statement was handed to court, but not read out.

Keith Spencer BL, defending, said his client “fancied this young lady” and was under the misapprehension that she liked him too. He said Kerai had drunk alcohol that day, which affected his judgement.


He wished to apologise unreservedly for his actions that day, the court heard.

Mr Spencer said Kerai intends to apply for asylum in this country and wishes to build a life for himself here upon his release from custody.


Sentencing him on Tuesday, Judge Martin Nolan said Kerai had “no right whatsover to behave in this way” and that the entire encounter was “totally uninvited”.


He said an aggravating factor was “the way he approached her, totally without invitation, on a public street when she was going about her business”.

“For the injured party, this was very frightening,” he said.


“How he approached this girl was particularly bizarre - to walk up to somebody and behave this way,” the judge said.

He set a headline sentence of four years and reduced it to 27 months, taking mitigating factors into account. He backdated it to last December when Kerai went into custody.

I prefer to address posts rather than posters, but you seem a little bit naive here. Nobody in A&N, possibly the whole site, is pro-junkie. They are awful people. I have stories from a family member who had the house behind hers turn into a gang-run drug den complete with underage prostitutes, I could PL all day about. it. Thing is, however bad Coolock is now, it will be worse when it's all nafris.

This isn't a wild prediction either. Perhaps Ireland hasn't been swamped with them yet, but parts of England, France, Italy, Germany have. The Emerald Isle will not magically reform these people where Naples and Paris were unable to. In the village where I'm from, the local community are pretty concerned with the large influx of migrants being bused in and the direct provision centres popping up. People would have familial ties and cordial relations between each other in neighbouring border counties and would hop back and forward to see each other. The shops, cafes, hotels, and other recreational facilities rely on patronage from nearby counties both in the north and south. However, the establishments that were once vibrant and full of visitors from nearby are now direct provision centres full of unvetted migrants. The infrastructure is not adequate enough to support the amount of migrants being placed into such a small centre. There are also concerns about safety amongst elderly, women, and children as nobody knows the backgrounds of said direct provisioners because nobody knows their backgrounds. If you surf on the web long enough, you can find articles and video footage of gang warfare occurring and and groups of men intimidating locals. As a result, community ties are weakened because of this fraudulent asylum industry and it's really sad to see. It's happening all over rural counties and people are understandably frightened.
