Red Dead 3/Red Dead Redemption 2 - IT'S HAPPENING.gif

It's true that the KKK's, specifically the variant seen in the game, existence is one the biggest, and most unnecessary anachronisms in it. However, it doesn't hold a candle to the sentient robot which also exists, and yet no one ever complains about.
Not quite. While the first KKK disbanded around 1870, there WERE a few splinter groups scattered around the South at the time. Although, them burning crosses at that time IS an anachronism.

True, but like with the cross burnings, the ones with the white robes seen in-game wouldn't also come around until the 1910s, hence why I said, "specific variant".

There is some shit that's pretty transparently leftist pandering shit. The guy arguing against miscegenation, every racist you encounter is characterized as a genuine retard via notes or dialogue, and many of your encounters with the Lemoyne Raiders, or the side quest with the old slave catcher, who murdering in cold blood while he is crying over the burning of his last few valuables is actually considered the good and morally just option as it gives you positive honor points.

And don't forget the completely anachronistic KKK who are the only random encounter enemies you can encounter that rewards you with positive honor for killing. So by the game's own logic, killing murderous bandits or violent psychopaths who are actively trying to hurt innocent people is a neutral choice and the only time murder is ever morally justified, hell, a net gain, is when you do it against a hecking white racist.

Much of the game reeks of typical violent liberal murder racist revenge porn.
I dunno, IMO there is a segment of the population which is so keyed up for their suspicions of "wokeness" to be confirmed that they will actively search for it where it isn't and use it to discount otherwise enjoyable media, sort of like the shitshow that ensued in the GTA thread when the trailer was released and it revealed... black people in the game. I commented on it then, too, that it's kind of dumb for people to get bent out of shape over black people being in a crime game. Trust me, I don't like leftoid pandering or "woke" shit either but if it's weak enough or subtle enough for me to overlook and I'm not actively being beaten over the head with it, I can just ignore it and move on. Redditors seem to be the only people who engage with that content as if it is a validation of their worldviews by posting the millionth thread in r/RDR2 about "look guise I burned the heckin' racist guy heckin' alive hyuk-hyuk", I don't necessarily need my worldview to be validated by every piece of media I consume [which is good because it likely never will be] all I need to be able to do is ignore the stupid shit.

The KKK random encounter is so short and detached from the actual plot of the game it really should not bother anyone. It's such a tiny thing to be upset about. Like did you expect a mainstream AAA studio to portray the Klan in a neutral light?
The point wasn't whether or not it bothered me the point is that it's leftist anti-racist revenge porn. I don't personally give a fuck.

There are several KKK encounters though, actually. I don't know if they repeat or not.

Sentient robots are a purely fantastical thing that doesn't break my immersion because it comes at the tail end of a quest line that's weird and fantastical. I don't see the politics of the developer at play and have my immersion ruined the same way I do when I see bumbling retard KKK members running around and then get good boy points for blowing them up with dynamite while Arthur calls them rats.
It's a rare encounter, too. I've put in hundreds of hours into this game, and I'm pretty sure I've only seen the KKK twice.
It's not that rare, and there are several. Random encounters can be fickle to trigger but they're less likely to appear if you have a bounty or there is a quest in the area.

You don't give a fuck so much you keep coming back to this thread and writing small essays about how the KKK was slandered in a half a decade old video game.

Yeah, but they're not exactly out of place when you realize this isn't supposed to be a historically accurate representation of the Old West but instead the Housers making a Hollywood western in vidya form, anachronisms and all.

Christ, gunfights even have random kapwing sounds right out of those old westerns.

The conversation circled back to whether the game was woke or not and I simply stated facts. Not my fault you can't handle it you fragile little fella. Does someone saying your favorite half a decade old game has faggot shit in it really rustle your jimmies that hard?

I like the game, by the way, so much I bought it twice. Not sure why you're being so defensive.

There's truth in this I suppose. It's not like the series is overtly dedicated to pure historical accuracy. I think why people feel like the KKK is out of place is because they aren't even really that prevalent in Western media outside of the shit Tarantino made.

Went straight from my RDR2 playthrough into RDR1 and man, the horse mechanics in 1 are so bad. Your horse speeds up in this weird uncanny way that makes you just veer off the road. It's really hard to control. It's also really glitchy, more then I remembered. During the fort Mercer mission my horse spawned into the fort and I had to murder it to get a new horse. I played red dead 1 when it came out back in 2010 it's one of my all time favorite games but you really notice the jankiness when you played it back to back with the second.

How about not including them at all, when they are in neither the right time nor place for it?
You’re right, but as far as that goes the Lemoyne Raiders offend me more.

Depicting Redshirt/Redeemer paramilitaries is awesome…

If the game was set in the 1870s.

Well, the PC port came out and aside from the price, people seem to like it.

Just finished my playthrough of the PS4 port of Red dead redemption 1 my first playthrough in many years Just a few observations/comments about it

  • I really like the more whacky, freakish characters like Seth the grave robber and the cocaine addict professor Macdougal in blackwater. They toned that style of character down a bunch for rdr2 which makes sense because of it's more realistic tone. I like the old Rockstar charm of them.
  • The midsection Mexican revolution subplot you get dragged into when looking for Javier Escuella to me felt overly long and a bit tedious. It sort of felt like they had a plot set for the game then realized it wasn't lengthy enough so they put in this middle portion of the game totally unrelated to the main plot to bulk it up. The Mexico map is also fairly uninteresting. Lots of backtracking too which is also tedious. (Curious if people here also felt like the middle drags)
  • The last third of the game in black water where you are hunting down Dutch is fantastic. Love Edgar Macdougal, love the big Indian guy and love the dynamic between the feds and John. Very satisfying hunting down Edgar Ross and the RDR logo appearing when you murder him.
  • The ambient music is really good especially the creepy ominous music in Black Water. The sky also is great like just going out and riding under the stars.
  • The horse mechanics are very dated and honestly slightly lowered my opinion of the game coming back to it.
  • It is comically easy to randomly die from being attacked by wild animals or getting even a little to close to water and you die very easily.
  • The port is identical to the PS3 version. I can't believe they charged 60 bucks for a port of a 14 year old game with zero improvements. To be clear I got it for 35 and was iffy about paying even that but I don't have my old PS3 or copy of RDR1 and buying new ones would have cost me more.

The main question I had for people here about red dead 1 was did anyone else find the Mexican civil war subplot that happens midgame to drag? I found it to be really tedious. I just wanted to go back to the main plot but I was off running errands that I really didn't care about.

I sort of liked the Mexican Civil War subplot, all of the major characters you meet that are angling for power are total and complete shitbags and you can tell John knows this and doesn't respect any of them and that the entire fight is ultimately pointless because no matter who wins it'll just be another flavor of shithead. I liked that aspect of it along with the bigger battle setpieces. That area of the map is less interesting and has less character than New Austin or West Elizabeth though, I did notice that. About the only really memorable places in Mexico for me are the big canyons, El Presidio and Escalera. The rest are mostly a blur to me.

You weren't kidding with the random animal attacks though, that was a meme right after release that you'd just get wrecked by a fucking cougar out of nowhere, they toned that down hard in RDR2. Some of the higher level challenges were fun for that reason, killing a cougar with a knife and I think also a bear. When it comes to 100% completion the plant collecting was the most tedious.

I played this for the first time as a pcfag. Apart from few dated mechanics and some immersion breaking, it's just as good as I expected it to be. 9/10, almost as good as mgsv. Now all I have left on my "games before I die" list is bloodborne. If I get to play that, I'll die happy.
