What a strange video, feels like it's three years too late, doesn't say anything new, and is just thinly disguised seething that their claim to fame (the prequel reviews) are becoming increasingly irrelevant due to millennial reassessment. It's also ironic that they find themselves defending "the closest thing to the prequels."
Their more serious recently released movie reviews are losing viewers to the YouTubers they were making fun of in their video and the only videos that bring in the views now are BotW. They hate that because they are serious film makers and their opinions on film should be taken seriously. I enjoy RLM content but their stuff in the last few years has been going down hill.

Plinkett should have made a review breaking down The Rise of Skywalker. Because that is a movie that actually deserves the Plinkett treatment.

I can't be the only RLM fan to have noticed that Mike 1000% fell into the George Lucas trap of forgetting how to execute the thing he became famous for. The Plinkett formula was exhausted by time he did the Baby's Day Out review where he pretended to take the film seriously. Though it was still entertaining at that point, it was also apparent he was phoning it in and relying on his old man voice as a crutch. Then he just kept doing it; purely because new Star Wars movies were falling out of an anus somewhere.

Then again, I'm speaking from the asinine position of having not watched the latest one, and having no plans to - The idea of watching a new Plinkett essay video this many years beyond 2010 is about as enticing a prospect to me as watching a 2025 Jimquisition. I think Mike's proven himself to still be capable of making entertaining videos - But doing so might require him to stop coasting on tired, old shit he's already talked about. That's actually the core of the problem: Even when it worked, Plinkett was little more than a vehicle for Mike to hear himself talk.

Sure, but Rise of Skywalker deserves to get an autopsy because it really was a massive failure. It failed to regain the audience TLJ lost, it shamelessly and incompetently brings back Harrison Ford, it awkwardly edits Carrie Fisher in when God had removed her from the movie, and the plot itself requires dumb plot devices like the WayFinder and I don't need to explain how dumb that thing is.

Look at this Robot Chicken sketch. It's mostly describing the plot of the movie, because the movie itself was a joke of a story. It's not like the rest of their parodies where they get you to rethink events for comedic purposes.

I forgot about scientist man. Those were some funny videos!
I was wondering if this video started as a scientist man but then they fleshed it out into a Plinkett review.

After the "ring theory" nonsense in the Last Jedi plinkett I'm kinda glad they didn't. I still don't understand their absolute hate for Rogue One which is still the best disney Star Wars movie IMHO.

the problem they have is the reason every movie sucks now is because gay race politics is being shoved into all of them, but these guys don't want to touch that.

The majority of people who watch reviews are either people who

1. have already seen the thing they're talking about and want to hear others put into words what they already feel.

2. people who want an real take on a movie before going to see it

When RLM talks about a horrible movie and they bring up all the problems except the fact that it's all clearly political propaganda written by mentally ill Faggots who hate their audience, they lose the people who want the catharsis of them ripping into the real issues of the movie and they lose the people who want real takes because if they do see it then it becomes clear RLM aren't being 100% honest with what the problems of the film actually are.

can someone explain to me why there being at-ats in Rogue One triggered them so fucking much but for some reason x-wings and tie fighter being used in a movie set 40+ years in the future was just fine to them?

Well, you don't have to talk about Identity Politics to explain why Rise of Skywalker is garbage. Or even The Acolyte really. Even when Obi-Wan tried to gunt-guard Moses Ingram on that basis, criticism doesn't have to be about Identity Politics because the show promised one thing and delivered another. And hilariously makes lightsaber stabs non-lethal in the process.

For the most part I agree with you, but at 13:24 in the video, he accused Rian Johnson of meeting with Kathleen Kennedy and dazzling her with feminist platitudes and then filling TLJ with all sorts of woke crap to spite the audience. I think Mike was so disgusted with what went down with TLJ that he went ahead and unloaded on Rian.

I wish they'd have gone into ROS more too. Even with TLJ there were parts I liked. ROS has virtually no redeeming qualities, good or bad. TLJ kind of had some meaning, even if they screwed it up. ROS seems like it was done just because the Star Wars movies are 'forced' into trilogies even when they don't have enough content to fill them. You can tell JJ had no idea wtf to do so 'lets make it a multi-mcguffin fetch quest'. Maybe that's why there really wasn't a ton of Plinkett style deep dives into it at all, there's almost nothing there.

I felt the same about Attack of the Clones. There's not too much memorable stuff in it and not enough to really be a full movie. If the constraints didn't force 3 movies, I think TPM and AOTC could've been spliced into Anakin from kid, then flash forward to him as young teen and the start of the Clone Wars into one movie. ROTS was the only prequel that justified its length, and maybe even existence overall.

Another thing they got flat out wrong is this is when they said the Millennial Falcon never changed. They spent a good amount of time in the Solo review showing they added the stupid filler in between the nose things, and should've done an 'oh wait' and showed that. Oh well.

The movie can't even decide if Chewie dies in it or not. There's tons of things wrong with that movie.

The only shot I kinda liked in it was Lando showing up with the fleet. Just that shot. But after that, it's ruined again. They should've killed Chewie and saved Wedge. At least it seems to have ruined JJ's career entirely. I doubt anyone will let him touch any franchise again. Not having Anakin as a final force ghost left even the ending as painful (ETA I know he's in that stupid mix of voices at Rey, which sucked too). Awful awful awful.

Another ETA, the ending is such a mess that I thought Wedge died in it, so looked it up. Guess he lived then, but whatever. Wasted him anyway

If they started calling out woke shit they'd lose their reddit audience and their gen-X contrarian nature won't let them call out woke shit because that's the popular thing to do now.

To try to be charitable to Mike I think the thing is that Mike is a fucking old man who's desperate not to get into these new fangled social discussions. When discussing "woke" shit he never seems to want to get into it and acts above it, sure he'll mention diversity but only as a action of pandering to an audience he believes wants it. While the acolyte section is comparing it to a negative, the prequels, he doesn't go into any of the execution probably because it's inseparable from the shit.
On there dismissiveness on other starslop tuber you gotta remember what's important to Mike is the filmmaking, the writing, directing, character, dialogue, and execution. Continuity on some random background character or the realism of a laser sword fight is just dumb nitpicking bullshit for loser nerds, unless it's star trek. In his mind all those games books and cartoons are just bullshit for nerds to fill time and pad out embarrassing wikis, they have zero marit and should never be concidered. Problem is to lots of people that shit does matter and made up a bulk of somes exposure to starwars, the prequels would in no way be as liked as they are now without all the media that surrounded it. Despite pioneering internet reviews as entertainment he seems to view these modern reviewers as just pedantic over obsessed dorks because they don't focus on the stuff that Mike feels matters when their main point in these videos is the entertainment of bashing an easy target
Plinkett is best as deep hard anal-sis but there was barely any here, everything was surface level shit people have been saying for years. The videos fine, It's was good enough for me to watch the full thing but shallow as a puddle.

I've watched TLJ twice (the second time I was sloshed and calling my retard contrarian friend a retard for defending it. Still counts)

We got like 45 minutes into ROS and I made the executive deicision of "No we're done."

So TLJ has that going for it.

I was waiting for an excuse to post this.

Seriously, how many times has he done that shtick of pretending to be "done with Star Wars" at this point? I was surprised when he ended the video with this BS again. I thought his TLJ review with "The Last Plinkett Review" was supposed to be a play on that, the ultimate send off of Mr. Plinkett (though he briefly came back to nitpick TNG which was fine). He even said in a recentish video that he had stopped making Plinkett reviews, but I guess no one is ever really gone...

I had never watched any nuWars but by RoS it had become a tradition for my wife to take her young cousins to the theater to see the sequels. Being my first Christmas with her family, I tagged along and got the magic of 4 teens agree what a piece of shit we all just watched.

But even if we ignore the canon raping (that is in itself hypocritical when they bring up Midochlorians), the Disney shit is just BAD in every way. Even when they have a flavour of the week that isn't completely god awful, it still fades away from the public memory a month afterwards.
