I've got a theory about the really obsessive redditors that spend hours a day watching cobra content and commenting about how much they hate him.
If you take a look a their profile (or in
threads like these where they gather and commiserate) many of them are recovering or active addicts. I think a significant percentage of the really hateful people on the sub fall into this category. A lot of them mention watching Cobra to keep sober and they often remark about how their own behavior compared to Cobes.
Here's the thing: these people almost universally seem to have been much, much worse behaved than Cobes ever has been. Their profiles often talk about multiple DUIs, prison stays, violence, losing kids, divorces, extended hospitalizations, estrangement from family and friends, long bouts of homelessness, etc.
I think there's two things driving their hate; the first being pure envy -- that they didn't have the privileged that Cobra has keeping him off the street and full of his substances of choice. They didn't have a Clint figure to bail them out or a monthly government check and suffered for it. I can sort of understand this. Some people get dealt a shit hand in life and even a single lapse of judgment fucks them up for years. Cobes has had many, many lapses of judgement and has hardly suffered any consequences and this makes them angry.
The second and less-understandable thing driving their hate is projecting their own behavior onto Cobra. Like I said, a lot of these redditors have freely admitted to doing awful things in the throes of their addiction. I think the way their mind works is "I did X while addicted, therefore EVERYONE does X while addicted." This is why you get so many alogs talking about how Josh is "definitely" buying pills from W&A, doing meth with Warlord, giving his mead to kids at the family Christmas party or the funniest accusation: driving drunk. They dredge up all the shittiest things they did before getting sober and just assume that Cobra is doing the same.
Seriously, next time you see some really vitriolic shit posted about Cobes take a peek and you'll probably see someone very proudly posting their 6 month AA chip or their recovery journey or something like that.
