Nothing screams "I want brownie points" more than self-flagellating for things your ancestors did. My great-grandfather fought in Ethiopia in 1936 and I do not give a single shit, nor do my dad or my grandma (and as a matter of fact, I do not even know if he took part in any atrocities). This obsession with familial guilt-tripping reminds me of North Korea's generational punishment.

Redditors see life as a marvel movie, with a clear defined "good vs bad", they can't imagine that some people didn't have a choice as it was a fucking war and if you lived in the south you were probably going to fight for the south. Slaves weren't owned on a large scale in my area but they still fought for the confederate side because they kind of had to. The redditor doesn't care though, they don't care about individuals. They will spit on someones grave for being "on the bad guys side" and not give two fucks about who that person was and the circumstances of their life.

Does reddit block VPNs now? They are useful for HVAC questions (the useful threads tend to be eight years old or more) and when I clicked a thread today it said I was blocked.

Happened to me as well, but for some reason they don't block VPNs on old.reddit.com so you can still use one lol.
