I don’t know what it is with Reddit mods but I have never seen any other group of people so drunk off of so little power. I can’t even think of a place to start, there are so many examples that it’s just become ubiquitous. Every single fucking post, comment, or ban message from a mod has this extremely shallow, smug and preachy tone, usually with a heavy dose of seething resentment towards the peasant who dared violate the holy commandments of your 200 member subreddit.
Amen. This reminded me of the time when I was banned from Vampire Freaks. Long story short, I rated a mod with a 1, lowest rating, and was banned as a result. It came out of the blue and made me realize when you give average users power and control; they're going to abuse it. No mercy. The same can be said with Reddit. Just one toe out of line and a butt-hurt mod will suspend your account.
I never understood damaging property etc because they hate the creator of said object when all it does is piss ordinary non-terminally online people off and doesn't affect said creator at all (they already got the money etc from said item).
Yes to all of this plus the fact that actually teaching, as in standing in front of kids giving instruction or tutoring them after school, feels like very little of what you do. The rest of your time is spent in a nightmare of ever-growing paperwork and meetings that make your job much, much worse. You cannot fail a student who refuses to do any homework and looks you straight in the face and says he's not going to do any of it because he knows he can do credit recovery for two weeks in the summer and have the same outcome (this has apparently become very common in middle schools, especially since the pandemic). You must write a plan for interventions you're going to do that must progress further and further each quarter until you are actively stealing time from others to spend one-on-one time with him during class, where he ignores you and says he won't do any work. At the end of the year, you must submit this plan, extensive documentation of how you implemented it, every email you sent to the parents, a log of all phone calls and meetings you had with them, and if one bit of this isn't done correctly, you get a talking to from admin and the kid gets a C in your class and passes. You have about 150 students so this is not the only kid like this you're dealing with. This isn't even touching things like IEPs and 504 plans where you can be sued by the parents if you don't follow it to the letter. You teach in a good school where the worst behavior issues are teens being teens. This is a "good" teaching job.

There's a loud (fat) progressive woman who works at my company and uses it all the time, this is despite the fact we're as far away from the American south as possible without being in Alaska. She also proudly boasts about being autistic and having ADHD and hating men, and I only mention that because everything about her gives off the exact opposite vibe of someone exhibiting southern hospitality. I don't know how to describe it, but the way she says "Y'ALL" in a nasally Midwest voice makes it feel like she's shouting at you. It always sounds so unnatural coming out of someone's mouth when they're not actually from the South, like someone butchering a foreign word in their native accent.
