What actually is the context for this? Some guy who is a part of a board game review channel nominally supported Charlie Kirk and so needed to be fired?
I explained shortly in the post I quoted. Dice tower is the biggest board game review youtube channel out there. It started as 3 dudes (Sam Healy, the guy they're hating on, Tom, the main owner and Zee) that knew each other from church writing reviews on boardgamegeek (biggest database and forum on boardgames). They were early adopters of the video format. Their biggest strength is just how much they cover. Instead of just covering a new game every time they buy one, they would post a lot of reviews as they would review every game sent their way by publishers. This quickly made them the default for any boardgame you want to watch a review off, as they both had the best camera equipment, the most coverage, and the most experience. They built the brand out with filming cons, having Q&A at conventions, organising boardgame getaways, with the biggest being a cruise, working together with big kickstarter names as kickstarter became a big player in the boardgame space, starting a charity after Tom lost his son to some nasty disease, etc.
They're conservative christians and don't hide that, but they don't belabor the point. The most they do is mention they don't like the theme of the game because it's violent/sexualized. But they still try to give it a fair review, just with a personal sidenote they did not like the theme. Online boardgame space is VERY pozzed, they know that, and they try to minimize friction points. And generally the purity warriors aren't too hard on them, because they like their output too much to chase them out of town with pitchforks.
A few years ago Sam left to pursue his own course, it didn't work out, and he asked Tom if he could come back so he could provide for his family. Tom accepted.
A few days(?) ago Sam posted some things on facebook(I think, maybe instagram) in favor of ICE and maybe (reddit is too rabid to be clear on this) earlier he was positive about Kirk. He drew a lot of hate, and started replying to people, further fanning the flames. During this time they also have a donation drive going for the charity. Sam then posted an open letter explaining why he was back at the dice tower (money problems) his feelings about the drama, and that in the end he stepped away from the dicetower out of his own volition, not at the prodding of Tom, and that he hopes people separate him from the dice tower. Then later Tom gets interviewed and the incident comes up, and Tom tells them he doesn't discuss how he handles things, the issue is dealt with.
And like a drop of blood this sends redditards into a feeding frenzy as they try to figure out who to get mad at, how mad to get at said people, and whether ICE is merely gestapo, or trumps private paramilitary death squad.
What annoyed me the most is the typically reddit things: everything is political and anything less than fullthroated support is unacceptable, quote bible verses that mean christians must support the protests, letting someone go is not good enough, you have to fire him, etc.
