Quite bluntly a lot of modern digital 'artists' can be replaced and nothing of value would be lost.

I remember scrolling through pages of fanart on DeviantArt that had been drawn on lined school paper and scanned, or looked like a retard in MsPaint had done it, or was totally-not-fetish-porn....for a HANDFUL of good stuff.

AI art would have been an improvement.

Nah it's not them who's been sperging for the most part, they're usually kids who don't make any money out of it. It's the ones that churn out stuff in these sorts of styles, usually for commission or as a freelancer for an indie game or something:






None of these are any good, but I've never used Stable Diffusion before and spent ten minutes playing around with adjectives like "artstation trending" or "vibrant colours" on a free website running a limited version that generates them in under a minute, and the styles I'm going for a recognisable.

If you were good at using this AI tech and especially used inpainting and that img2img stuff that makes it work off a base concept layout, you could probably supercede those artists with this tech in a couple of years for anything where people's response will be "good enough". Especially if you're able to use Photoshop to a decent enough ability to manually tweak/cleanup afterwards.

There's probably additional resentment that it can generate stuff in styles they can't emulate and that you're not supposed to prefer, like academic painting

I'm increasingly convinced that a lot of the most popular subreddits for personal storytelling are not just full of fakes (we knew that) but that the fakes are being created specifically for the purpose of farming the content and making money for somebody. Maybe this is late, but I am wondering if this has been investigated at any point and if there's some theory about who is making the money. Macedonian troll farms? ESL students in Singapore? If anyone has sussed this out I'm all ears.

Reddit has a fairly sophisticated metric for rooting out bots but there's one really, really fucking simple workaround. Buying already "confirmed" accounts. The more important, the less chance it's going to get nuked, et cetera.

This has multiple levels to it. The first level, the bots that are a few dollars to cents, are the ones that are going to be used for vote manipulation. As it goes up, you end up with higher and higher gay ops until you reach the peak; which is outright political shitposting.

A few years back I followed an account I first saw in 2018 post nothing but essentially political posts against some random dude running in Georgia. He was on the front page of like, 30 subreddits for the two weeks before then fucking vanished. His account was like 8 years old.

Millions of people saw those posts. It was without a doubt, a stroke of fucking genius on the person who pulled it off. For presumably under the price of a billboard, this dude got who knows how many people aware of how fat and how little sex people wanted to have with some random dude in the running. And it was all done for under the price of a billboard.

The scrubs make the accounts. They sell them to the fixers. The fixers take orders from whoever pays them.

Quick tangent here, have we talked about Subreddit drama at length yet? Because I noticed that for all their "no pissing in the popcorn" rules that sub's primary purpose is brigading. Which is to be expected when a sub takes pictures of posts, links them and attracts hundreds of people with nothing better to do than laugh (read: seethe) at drama on reddit. Have you comitted wrong think and insulted something Reddit is supposed to love? Your thread is now forfeit. Does the poster being mocked have a conservative opinion? Wow, he must be a Trumper fascist! Let him have it
