I really think that there will be another Highland Park style shooting ( rip to the victims for real ). This really is someones entire life and identity and they will not be able to handle the rug being pulled out from underneath them. This is not a fed post, you are taking away the one thing that keeps the loony troon stable and thus something to lose. Not that it isn't pathetic but it is a means of control and stability for them and then it's gone.

I can see both sides of this.

First off, Spez is being a greedy bitch, on multiple levels. Those API calls cost Reddit next to nothing in terms of data center fees for the traffic, compared to the traffic they get from browsers and their own app. He never expected these third-party app developers to be able to pay up. He wants to force them out of business intentionally and drive users to Reddit's official app. Why? Because mobile apps spy on people. A lot. That small percentage of users on third-party apps are not sending their user metrics to Reddit, they're sending them to the app developers. Naturally, the userbase are upset with this change in API pricing and exclusion of third-party apps because Reddit's mobile app is a giant steaming pile of dog shit that couldn't be saved even if you had a legend like Terry Davis refactor the code, and jannies on Reddit are used to the expanded feature sets provided by these alternative apps.

On the other hand, the Reddit jannies' spastic freakout, taking subs private, spamming NSFW content, and so on, reeks of typical janny entitlement, where unpaid volunteers believe that they're stakeholders in the site and have a right to dictate how it's run. They do not. They don't own jack shit. They're not landed gentry, they're jannies, and they do it for free. They can be removed at any time by the site's owners.

Though the Redditomachy has been very entertaining to watch, it has only reinforced my opinion that the fundamental client-server structure of the internet is a bust, and we need distributed web protocols to take its place. Today's social media sites are not in any way interoperable; there is no real data portability or interconnectivity between them, their APIs are all different and proprietary, and at any time, admins can cut users off from profiles that they spent years building, or arbitrarily restrict site functionality. And, of course, as Matt Taibbi and the Twitter Files showed, big social media sites use algorithmic manipulation to promote "ideologically acceptable" content that lies within the Overton Window, while excluding everything else, and if that doesn't work, they collaborate with governments on censorship.

This isn't how anything else in our lives works. When you go out in public and strike up a conversation with someone on a street corner, there is no middleman standing between you and the other person who reaches out and pinches your lips shut if he doesn't like what you're saying. If the internet is a public square, then why is so much of it controlled by a tiny handful of private companies who want to act like publishers, curate user content, and dictate every single aspect of how their platforms can be used? People ought to have sole responsibility and full data custody over their communications online, because that's how face-to-face communication outside the internet works.

Let's be honest, who the heck wants to suck the proprietary API and algorithmic censorship dicks of giant, centralized social media sites forever? Compared to the Web 1.0 of a diverse array of specialty forums catering to every interest, isn't this basically a vision of hell?

It looks like powermod awkwardtheturtle and his alt have been banned.

This poor loyal power janny got heckin order 66'd guys. How unwholesome of spez. The first janny to swallow the shotgun barrel coming soon?
"What was life like in the 2020s, Grandpa?"
"Well child, there was this thing called the internet that allowed you to speak to people all over the world. And on the internet, there was this glorious place called Reddit. I ruled over millions of people there, I was like a God to them, bu-"
"Sounds dumb. I'm going to go help Mom with weeding the crops."
I'm just kidding, someone like AwkwardtheTurtle won't reproduce.
Redditors making their own splinter site has already happened though and it proved viable.
(r/drama, the_donald, incels, consumeproduct)

Its still not something that most will be willing to do even if they have the means to sinply because niggercattle like big agregators and their shitty apps. A site having a smaller user base is already enough deterrent for most normies.
This post reminded me to go check on what rdrama are doing during all this, and bless them, they've got a mole in the jannie discords.
Here's the live reaction to the happening
jannyno.png
They're apparently kicking around doing mass resignations on July the 1st, but then waver on it because obviously as far as the admins are concerned that's just the trash taking itself out (and also they don't want to lose their mod positions, and especially don't want to be the only ones to jump)
resig1.pngresig2.pngresig3.pngresig4.pngresig5.png
There's also the idea of DFE to fuck up the reddit google search results by hiding any useful answers (I suspect most of these mods will not have provided useful answers unless you're a paedophile trying to find what episodes of Azumanga Daioh have the best panty shots or whatever). They're also debating doing some big stunt this Friday because it's Reddit's 18th birthday and then DFE on July 1st. They don't seem to have realised that the API changes will block the reddit comment shredders that mass overwrite your comments (so if you delete your account/comments they're not as restore-able as if you just delete them without shredding). Please also note the mod crying because they're scared they won't find a space like /r/demisexual again.

Then there's also this random sperging about some sort of autistic fetish and how disabled people with that fetish can't go to meetups in case they catch covid, God knows.

what he should have done is go back on the API changes and do what the jannies ask, and take notes on which jannies supported the protests.
then, over the nest 6 to 12 month, slowly and quietly remove all those jannies from their positions. flag their accounts as unsuitable for moderator positions, and replace them with spez loyalists.
when all relevant subs are run and controlled by spez loyalists, go back and roll out the API changes as planned.
yeah, pretty much. Silent but deadly. But start after the IPO. Keep reddit as is for the moment being. You're trying to attract investors into buying stock.

I'm laughing so hard over them being upset at being banned and not being able to get a satisfactory explanation out of the mods. Oh you mean like when you ban and mute people if they ask about it because you got a case of the butthurt from them thinking different things to you.

Why do the retards always default to IIED? Courts absolutely despise that tort (not to even mention how hard it is to prove (you are required to prove that you suffered something "of such substantial quality or enduring quality that no reasonable [person] in civilized society should be expected to endure it." Hughes v. Pair, 46 Cal. 4th 1035 (Cal. 2009). It's a nightmare to prove even in the liberal paradise of California, where Reddit resides).

It's actually incredible how fragile this multi-billion dollar tech platform really was. Like a lot of other folks in this thread have pointed out, the IPO is fucking dead at this point, and it's going to be a real uphill battle to restore enough investor confidence to get the valuation to even match the $3.2B it got last time around. The power-tripping jannies were a major structural instability and Huffman was an absolute dolt for pushing this shit through without purging them first and installing company men. Reddit is giving Twitter a run for its money for the title of worst-managed tech firm of the early 2020s.

It's more autistic than you could ever imagine. They had an avatar system which had special reddit premium exclusive accessories and a couple of things you could buy with reddit coins. However they now have reddit avatar NFTs that you have to pay actual cash money for (they don't accept their own reddit casino money):

Your browser is not able to display this video.
Amusingly some subreddits ban users with NFT avatars. You can resell them on any platform (it's linked to a "reddit vault" which is basically a digital wallet). There's a 5% royalty fee on resales.
Under the Ts and Cs:
So if the jannies do get banned, any NFTs they have in their "vault" are lost forever. I doubt they read the terms and conditions.
Rather appropriately, the only "high value" avatar currently in stock in the reddit store is a lolcow
lolcow.png
Idk what’s more terrifying - the fact that somebody would pay $99.99 for a Reddit avatar that isn’t unique, or the fact that 165 Redtards have paid collectively near $16,500 to be one of 250 people with this cow avatar 🤨
Now wait a minute, aren’t redditors the same group that derided and mocked NFTs and called anyone who bought them a gullible retard (as well as 100s of various ‘isms)? You’re telling me that redditors were doing shit just as stupid and probably only hated NFTs because that’s what all the cool kid leftist overlords told them to think? Lol Redditors truly deserve to be called bugmen.

the IPO is fucking dead at this point, a
I mean with the economy the way it is the window of easy overvalued tech nonsense has closed anyway.

It us a reasonable plan to confront the janny problem now, let them seeth and have their little fits. When they've sorted their mod problem, are getting all that API money for themselves, and the economy has picked up again it will probably be worth more than it was pre jannycaus.

I find it incredibly amusing how self important the Reddit Jannies are. They think its THEIR platform. That THEY were in charge! Lol, My fellow negroes, you did it for FREE. You are SLAVES. You picked the cotton for Massa Spez, and Massa Spez gets to decide what to do with it. Jus cuz he let you hold the whip hand on occasion didn't mean it was yours!

They're commies that want to take your car and make you ride the bus with crackheads. No shit they didn't see the imbalance in power lol. They've never had real jobs, always terminally online, already slaves to government gibs, they didn't notice the second chain around their necks

I'm glad to see troons being BTFO over and over this year. It should be obvious to even them that they were nothing more than useful idiots that had a small window of privilege due to them being profitable for corporations to dangle in front of libcucks to sell products or serve as a sort of immunity for corporations, but that time is over. Trannies are now experiencing the end of the retarded fad of gender bullshit that has plagued us for too long now. They no longer serve a purpose for anyone, not even themselves.

Its time to wake up troons, wake up and smell the (g)ashes.

lmfao
"these lowly mortals know not who they fuck with, whats the process getting this handled?!"
i just cant compute, i dont get how they dont understand, its over?
their power, by default, has been significantly nerfed
theyre slowly being replaced, and anyone who complains is just putting their hands up to be the next whack'a'mole
im really enjoying this

it's the secular version of believing in a higher authority. they defend institution bc they were told there is some universal complaint box where they can file grievances and then the right side of history will win

those power mods that mod like 10s to hundreds of subreddits will definitly bite a bullet.
all it'll take is there account getting perma banned.
the problem with this thread I see is that it equates all reddit mods as being the same when reddit is actually full of different cliques. the worst power mods like Bardfinn were against this protest and were and are sucking up to the admins at every chance. the cliques of reddit are complicated. also, spez isn't trying to improve the site at all, he's trying to make money. if he wanted to have at the power mods he'd limit number of subreddits you can mod, but he won't ever do that. what happens on reddit is that mods engage in power-trading where they literally make each other mods of subreddits so they can control the discussion together. then you get one of them in, then they bring in their friends months later. and they'd poison things. that's how people like akwardtheturtle got so many mod spots. awkwardtheturtle was trojan horsed into a subreddit I ran and I had no problem calling him a faggot repeatedly in modmail, which I can assure you he is in every way shape or form possible. actually, in retrospect it seemed like it was quite organized over a long period of time. they never ruined the integrity of the sub because the top mod had a total free speech commitment, but that person found themselves banned without breaking a rule, that's how reddit is played. See, reddit doesn't want the subs to just follow the site-rules, they want users to implement even stronger rules that promote an agenda. Reddit has an agenda behind it they try to disguise.

it is funny that awkward got suspended. he was 2nd tier shitty powermod. Dumb asshole but not the worst (best compliment I'll ever give the guy)

the people protesting this are largely 2nd-tier powermods that don't have quite as far reach as people like Bardfinn generally. Or some of them are communities that aren't completely censored like, thinking of the right one, /r/mildlyinteresting.

it feels like a lot of people in this thread have a fantasy where reddit will be improved after this and there will be less moderation because the mods will get kicked out. no, this is just a like a soviet-style shakeup, it's about loyalty and kissing the ring and you plebs will benefit in no way from this.

it is important for spez to nip all resistance in the bud now. I assure you when reddit goes corporate even posts organizing a bud lite style boycott will be silently deleted and he wants to make sure mods will go along with whatever reddit does going forward. spez wants the kind of mods that would nip a bud lite boycott to please advertisers while being able to say "hey, organic user-run website!"

this will blow over as it always does because reddit mods crave reddit power more than anything else and those that didn't bend the knee were already evicted from the site or became collaborators.

in no way does a quick resolution in favor of reddit.com make the site more tolerable to post on.

I hope this last a long time and people get really angry at the admins doing this, anything to break the illusion that reddit is organic is good in my book.

tl;dr this is basically what they did to the_donald on a larger scale, and the mods are not one unified group but they consist of many separate cliques

oh, the top tier power mods friendly with the admins are all very SJWy tranny lovers. all your most woke SJWy subs did not participate because they're literally friends with the admins, guys
