"Sexual harassment by Turkish ice cream man"
https://old.reddit.com/r/femaletravels/comments/1ltaqxc/sexual_harassment_by_turkish_ice_cream_man/

In this thread on /r/femaletravels, a woman visits Turkey and becomes outraged when she's walking around showing cleavage and the ice cream man shoves an ice cream cone in it.
The whole thread is out for blood. There's various people fighting over if it was sexual assault or a funny joke.

I guess now that colleges have turned into safe-space hugboxes that people assume Turkey is equally as progressive?

It's very funny to read the range of replies in there. I'd be extremely surprised if anything happens at all to the fellow above. I can see the Turkish police "looking into it" to quiet her down, but not much beyond that....

Video looks staged af. Someone just happened to be recording from the best angle when all this was going down?

I actually don't find it that unlikely... for those who haven't seen this yet, in Turkey, it's like a little running gag that when you go to purchase ice cream, they play a little game of "keep away" with the cone/cream. It was probably her friend recording her for a funny moment. If you look on YouTube, you can find hundreds of these videos.

tl;dr don't travel to shithole countries

South African healthcare system just killed my friend.

My best friend was on a photo safari in South Africa last month when he suffered a heart attack. He was deep in the bush and urgently needed to be medevacked to a hospital by helicopter.

He could easily afford any care required. But the emergency services told him they did not take credit cards — the money had to be wired to their bank account before they would dispatch a helicopter.

At 4 a.m. local time, his wife was desperately calling family back home, asking them to be at the bank when it opened at 9 a.m. to arrange the transfer. By 10 a.m., the tens of thousands of dollars demanded had been wired.

And then they waited. It took another three hours for the helicopter to be dispatched and to finally reach him. When he was flown to the cardiology facility, the hospital refused to evaluate or treat him until a second wire transfer was completed. His wife had the family rush back to the bank to send more money.

Only then, hours later, did they bring in a heart specialist. After running tests, they confirmed he needed a stent. He was prepped and taken to surgery. About an hour later, a man who called himself the doctor came out and said the surgery had been successful, but that my friend had died afterward and that "there was nothing they could have done."

There was no compassion, no grief counseling, just cold information and a number to a funeral home that she could work with to get the body back - for an additional wire.

She was completely alone for two days until her son was able to reach her. It then took two full weeks for the body to be released and transported back to the U.S.

My friend was a good man. A pillar of our community. He volunteered his construction services for people in need. He lived honestly and generously. He did not deserve to be treated this way. He could have paid for everything upfront without hesitation. But the South African health care system refused to act until they had their money in the bank. Those 18 lost hours in getting the money transferred cost him his life. He was only 60 years old.

Yes, he had travel insurance. But that meant nothing. Travel insurance reimburses you — it doesn’t pay upfront. In South Africa, if you’re a foreigner, you must have cash in their bank before they will do anything.

The funeral was yesterday. And I will never forgive them for what they did.

Jamaica is NOT solo female friendly

I love solo travel, I have been to like 30 countries solo, and this is the first time I felt genuinely unsafe and uncomfortable. I hired a private driver from a “very reputable company” and he was so gross asking me about my sex life and telling me how beautiful I am and hinting that he wanted to hang out after I finished the tour for the day. By HINTING I mean telling me he wanted to take me out to some bar. Also kept begging to take pictures of me. I went to Blue Hole and couldn’t walk one foot without some perv telling me I’m hot or whatever and my guide for Blue Hole asked if I was single and when I said I wasn’t he kept cross examining me about where my boyfriend was. Not to mention all the cat calls in the extremely touristy parts of Montego Bay. One guy even came up to me on the main strip and told me he had been admiring me on the beach. It was so scary to know he was watching and following me?? I really don’t recommend Jamaica solo.

edit: a lot of commenters are committed to misunderstanding me and I will not be reiterating that there are different kinds of danger.

Imagine being such a retarded stupid whore that you don't realize shit that is not acceptable in Amurrica is totally okay nearly everywhere else in the world.

This story isn't just South Africa, it's the global standard outside of American and Western European soil.

Have a mild cough as an illegal immigrant with $500K in debt in the US? Free healthcare in the ED. Have a massive trauma event anywhere else? No one will touch you without payment.

Even American/European/Australian cruise ships in the ocean will try all they can to obfuscate and delay until you basically show them evidence your whole family is dead, your account is empty, you have no insurance, and the rest of the world has been nuked to oblivion before they will provide a Tylenol for free.

People should not be visiting these countries without understanding the risk. If you visit anywhere in the Pacific rim, expect any medical issue to require a helicopter and plane flight back to Japan or Australia. If you visit anywhere in Asia or Africa, expect a helicopter flight to a regional hospital and a week for a flight to a Western hospital. Make sure you make an arrangement with a trusted local/someone at home who can hit up the embassy ASAP if you run into trouble.

If you travel there without an extensive contingency plan, your plan is to die in the jungle alone and screaming, or being abandoned in a rural village after someone stole your wallet and phone.

Can a female kiwi please enlighten me on the fascination with single young women and traveling to third world countries? I'm a big guy, and probably not worth any of the hassle if someone wanted to fuck with me, and I still have my doubts about traveling alone to the third world.

Meanwhile, I constantly hear about 19 y/o girls who just have to backpack trough central Asia or South America. Have you really already seen everything in Europe or North America?

Lefty chicks think all reports of danger in foreign countries is just racist propaganda, and the entire third world is a gigantic Portland where everyone will be grateful to finally meet the white saviours face to face.

It's a rich person thing.

If you've never gone to school or lived in an area where there's just generally sketchy people, let alone high crime rates, your only perspective is perfectly clean and safe streets.

Transplant that to these dangerous but otherwise beautiful countries, and you have people who think Morocco is just a Disney theme park where everyone dresses like Aladdin rather than an incredibly dangerous country that will tolerate you for the money at best.

Not a female (for sure) but isn't the usual justification presented that it presents new perspectives on living? It was even tradition for European scholars to do this as a part of their education (the original "Grand Tour"). You can question if the reason presented is the actual reason, but I find it pretty easy to see the rationale.

They think third world countries are all full of muscular wealthy Adonises like their stupid romance novels and they get disillusioned and asshurt when they're swarmed by hordes of ugly, smelly, 5'4 brown goblinos.

They also get confused that in Latin and South America it's normal to be extremely forward because in America men are scared shitless to interact with women because of #metoo and radfem shit.

Tldr women don't understand the difference between fantasy and real life, more news at 11.
