Redditors love their hecking moral ambiguity, they get real antsy when a writer doesn't really do that with their villains
View attachment 7931917

This is a double whammy for me because it shows the never ending Harry Potter obsession by the same people who think JK is the embodiment of evil and it also shows like a complete misunderstanding of the source material.
They like seeing bad guys that are unambiguously bad, but it has to be presented a particular way and by the right person. Voldemort was cool for them because Rowling used to be kosher until she stepped on the tranny land mine. They only hate him now because they hate Rowling. Before that, Voldemort was a nice analogue for anyone in real life they didn’t like. If you recall, there were plenty of comparisons made between Donald Trump and Voldemort, and Republicans and Death Eaters back in 2017.

Or simulation theory. Something reddit fedora tippers love but don't seem to realize its just a shitier version of gnosticism with scientism filter.
Redditoid: "What if we're all actually in a simulation and reality is just one big computer program?"

Me: "Yeah, and imagine that that simulation was created by someone, and that that Creator has moral expectations of us..."

Redditoid: [absolute meltdown]

That's fine until the amount of songs you've gotten tired of outweighs the ones you still like listening to. I've got 2 playlists of 2,000+ songs, both started when I felt the need for a "fresh start" to my library, and I'm about to make a third.

Return to album.
With mobiledata, I use youtube. Without mobiledata, I use my phone's pre-installed music app with downloaded MP3s

Do they not teach kids opsec in school anymore?
I think Facebook killed the common wisdom of "don't post your name/address online" thing. It's been all downhill from there.
Mrs. Cake has a thread here. I find her boring because she's just reddit personified down to not even being American while being obsessed with American politics

Funny /r/BreakingMom post (hopefully creative writing)
I keep getting calls about my child every single day. I'm gonna lose it.
Pretty much every single day, school has been calling me because they have had to physically restrain my 10 year old nonverbal autistic son due to self-injury. He punches himself in the face until he bleeds. When his hands are blocked/restrained he will lift his knee and knee himself in the chin/nose area until he bleeds too.

It's daily. DAILY.

Why the fuck does he do this, you ask? Oh, Idunno. Mostly because he was told no, or that he wants to go home but it's 1pm and school lets out at 2:45 so he will have to wait. He doesn't like that. Those are his triggers.

They called some sort of crisis response team and had him evaluated with the school psychologist present. I don't think they've found out anything new. My son just wants what he wants, when he wants it and can't handle the word "no." He bit the school psychologist, scratched up the adults in the room and bit the principal. Not to the point where there was blood, but it's still a bite.

Ya'll talk me down, because I cannot have him go to the special needs school that's about an hour's drive away. Transportation is an issue, even if the district pays for bussing. I don't have a good car and I'm a new driver if some emergency happened that school and they needed me ASAP, I couldn't be there. Not to mention. the alternative school is also where all the "Worst Case Scenarios" are warehoused and it's not so much an education but dealing with horrible behaviors that are far, far, far, worse than my child. I don't want him hurt at school or bringing new/worse behaviors home with him.

I have two more restraints until we have to have yet another unsuccessful meeting about what to do about his behavior. They have asked me what I do to stop it. The answer is throw him in a cold shower. They obviously cannot do this. I don't know what to tell them. I also just block his blows to the head/face with my hands and just wait until he stops on his own. This can take like 30 minutes.

This is a new year at a new school so maybe that's part of the problem. Idk. His old school literally saw him aggress and let him do his own thing in the corner of the room, so he basically did nothing but sleep in a beanbag chair the entire year, and lost an entire year of learning.
mom of a tard kid who doesn't want her tard kid going to tard school with other tards who might be detrimental to his school experience. Sees no irony in keeping him in school where they're unequiped to deal with him and his tard rages which presumably constantly disrupt class.

/r/videos mods decide to allow politics only for it to be completely taken over by politics bot/jeet spam in a single day. Enjoy being swallowed into the current thing monolith, subreddit child. (archive)
Hi r/videos.

We live in trying times. And lately we've noticed that people kinda wanna talk about it. So, we've been discussing internally about whether it's time to revisit R2, our hitherto extremely restrictive anti-politics rule that sees us removing a lot of videos that would otherwise attract considerable interest and discussion.

At the same time, we want strike some sort of balance to respect the 'escape' possible on r/videos, away from other subs like r/news which seem to contain nothing else (no offense to them, it's a great community, but it can be depressing given the state of the world).

So with that in mind, as a mod team, we're going to pause some R2 removals and see how it goes for a bit. Your feedback is welcome.

The details

R2 is broken down into a few aspects:

Politicians in videos whatsoever, even non-political contexts

Videos featuring politicians/politicos from the last 10 years in non-political contexts (e.g., Arnold Schwarzenegger workouts, Elon in a SpaceX launch video) have historically been banned. This has always struck me as a bit odd and has been weakly enforced at times over the years.

We want to rescind this aspect of R2 entirely.

So, this type of video is now allowed during the trial period.

Social Justice Issues

Videos about topics like inequality, racism, wealth disparity, etc. have also been banned, historically. But again, enforcement has been inconsistent. We do allow occasional videos on the rich/poor divide, on immigration, on healthcare and education.

We want to rescind this aspect of R2 entirely, and let the community decide which kinds of these videos should make the front page, based on upvotes. Simple as that.

So, this type of video is now allowed during the trial period.

A reminder: “public freakouts” content (violent arrests, protests, shootings) remains disallowed. We're not suddenly going to turn into r/CrazyFuckingVideos (props to them, but different vibe here).

Policy & Issue-Focused Content

Videos about global policy matters will be allowed during the trial.

This covers videos on climate change and right to repair that contain a political aspect (which have often been allowed anyway), but also videos on geopolitical conflicts, and about policy around things like immigration, since it's a hot topic right now (provided they do not contain violence, shootings, freakouts or other unacceptable content).

Politics of the Day

Videos tied to current political issues (e.g., Trump tariffs, Epstein files, anti-immigrant protests in Europe, Nepal revolution, Ukraine war, Gaza conflict) will be allowed, but we're going to try to avoid them overwhelming the sub.

A reminder that war footage, gore, death, etc., will still not be permitted here. There are plenty of other places on Reddit and the Internet at large to find such things.

We'll aim at no more than ~10–20% of the top 50 posts. Moderators will review this - when Limits Are Exceeded, we'll cull recent duplicates, videos that overlaps with others that already have more traction, repetitive/played out topics, then the lowest-upvoted submissions.

This is probably the most controversial part of the changes we're proposing, and also may be the one we revise ultimately.

What remains BANNED

Covered by our rules and Reddit's sitewide rules:

  • Public freakouts
  • Shootings, stabbings, explosions, crushings
  • Car or bike accidents
  • Industrial accidents
  • Other kinds of gore
  • Any video featuring death or killed people
  • Videos of protests depicting extreme violence
  • Violent arrests and other police actions
  • Animal death
  • Animal distress
  • Copyright infringement, e.g. full movies ripped on to Youtube
  • Stealing other people's videos
  • Pornography
  • Hate speech
  • Bigotry
  • Racism
  • Sexism
  • Videos inciting discrimination based on sexual or gender orientation
  • Doxxing, witchhunting
  • Sharing other people's sensitive information or private moments without consent
  • Incitements to violence or to kill others
  • Videos glorifying any of the above

Self Promotion

A reminder that this is not an invitation to post your own videos. Reddit video hosting remains disabled here. This sub is a curated list of interesting videos found on other sites, not a place to share your shaky cam footage of a car crashing into a tree.

Feedback

Let us know what you think, and let us know how it's going. We will likely trial this for about 4 to 6 weeks, then consult/decide on what to do next.

Hope you're all having a lovely day.
/r/videos at the time of writing totally not getting overrun by politics slop

Ironically allowing politics videos is somehow more cancerous than any of the other still banned things. Even redditors are upset.

redditifcation should become a term, imo.

Redditors and KiwiFarmers are near opposites.
Redditors think they're smart, act all pretentious, yet are just pseudo-intellectual idiots.
KiwiFarmers think they're midwits, act like bitter antisocial Polishmen, yet are probably smarter and wiser than most of their coworkers.
Both are, of course, mildly autistic.
