reddit General

Social media gears them towards it due to the fact that everyone that is involved in it on the level and dynamic that Hasan is or really any streamer has to naturally fall into this mindset to keep the system going because that's simply how it works and works best.
Interestingly this guy is 58 years old, Reddit wasn’t a thing til he was already 43 and the internet itself didn’t take off til he was like 35 years old.
How did he become an internet addicted weirdo when the internet wasn’t even much of a presence til he was approaching middle age.

I imagine most internet power tripping no lives are millennials and younger who maybe didn’t have community in their youth and young adulthood and found it in their teens and 20s. Eventually they warped into what they are by being raised by the internet.
This guy was like 33 in the year 2000. When he was 25 the internet was still mostly a footnote for most people.

Before the Web there were BBSs and Usenet which he could have been into. Google has a bunch of Usenet archives if someone wants to search for his username. He's old enough and dumb enough to use the same username for the past 30+ years.

He could have had a lot of negative experiences in life to make it prime for this to be the ultimate drug. Their has never been something as much of a dopamine dump like the internet has been except for hard drugs and not everyone wants to do those. Sometimes something does not come along in life for your appropriate time period. I love the ambient mixes on YouTube that are an hour long and are cranked out by the dump truck load and I have been on YouTube since it's inception. Sometimes it's just not timed in the way you think or it seems to need to be.

I wonder if he’s a rich trust fund kid.
The fact he spends so much time on Reddit but travels around and is somehow married makes me think maybe someone is paying his way.

I was legitimately addicted to L4D1 & 2 back in the day, and when I got into playing Versus became an absolute monster in play. See, when you play co-op, you always save your boys and everyone always does - unless you're within visible distance of the safe room or escape. In which case, especially on higher difficulties - fuck it, run for it.
There was a phenomenally brutal map based on the Mines of Moria (part of the Night Terror campaign) in L4D2 where once I was ahead of the rest of the group and had a clear shot at the safe room, but the rest of the team were pinned down with two Tanks and a bunch of other shit on them, and the situation was hopeless.

I ran into the saferoom and locked them out. I legit felt guilty about it because other than me, TPK, even though there was really no other choice.
Since the internet didn’t really start to take off til he was already like 35 years old.
The Internet was better before it "took off."

I stopped reading this thread after coming to the conclusion that most of the people here read Reddit regularly while posting here pretending they don't.
In fairness, I'd much rather someone read two places of opposite viewpoints than only one, because I can much better trust that they're making a fair judgment based on things they're actually observing when they then condemn one or the other.

The opposite is, well, people who exclusively use Reddit. You know, the people we continually bemoan for strawmanning and blindly swinging at people they have no actual frame of reference for, because they work exclusively on hearsay.

That said, I'm with you on the pretention regarding people pretending they don't read Reddit. It's both just as bad as, and just as much of a conduit of information as any other social media platform, so there's a nonzero practical value in it, and I figured people here would be used enough to mild disagreement to be willing to own that.

Some places only have decent discussions on very specific, niche interests that aren't utterly infested. If having touched a site previously or sometimes looking at a sub topic like Gorlworld is too far then we're all reddit fags here. Same with 4chan, and same with Something Awful. Game's over, Jersh can pack up his job and start his quest for a boyfriend free girl that's equally obsessed with cheese.

The issue is the absolutely militant bullshit that pervades the site, most especially the front page frequenters.

I saw this on a gaming subreddit and felt like I had to post it because it's probably the most lazy and low effort lefty political comic I've ever seen.

Pretty much this, yeah. Normies weren't using the internet until around 2000 (thanks AOL), but this NeoDiogenes guy does NOT give off "normie energy". I wouldn't be surprised if he was into Usenet and BBS clear back into the 80s, although given that he's an art fag, he most likely waited until the early 90s.

This guy was 43 years old when he got his Reddit account 15 years ago. You’d think he would be resistant to being an internet addicted power tripping moderator douchebag. Since the internet didn’t really start to take off til he was already like 35 years old.
How do these people even exist in society and how do they stay employed, maybe he’s a rich trust fund kid or something.
Then again his username was NeoDiogenes
So he was already a pretentious asshole going into Reddit.

He gets tugboats every month. No trust fund or nothing, just old reliable tugboat.

Redditor sees gold Krugerrands in an 80s movie (back when the only gold bullion coins available were South African Krugerrands, but also they were banned in the US due to Apartheid, so 80s movie badguys always had some), develops a fascination with Krugerrands in general, buys some silver ones, and wonders if anyone else is fascinated by Krugerrands. Most other Redditors in this sub are down, but one Redditor, in Redditor nature, finds coins from Apartheid South Africa to be distastefully Nazi-adjacent. When challenged on the selective outrage, said Redditor gives a rambling list of contingencies, as if anyone actually cares.

the cherry on the cake is that the retard behind this comic is canadian

they really cannot get enough of whining about a country they don't even live in

I wonder if it’s really whining or it’s because she knows making low effort comics and social media posts gets her maximum updoots and attention
