A lot of people don't realize that. Once the build is done the only people working there are basically janitors. Keep stuff running. Remove dead stuff, add fixed stuff, maybe a full time electrician and HVAC person to do the routine maintenance and fix stuff if problems occur. Bigger changes they'll ship in a team to do new hardware installs or whatever and then they go away when they're done.

As much as people hate warehouses they'll have a ton more staff, mostly still low end skillsets, but more of them.
And then those warehouses are filled with cheap imported labor. Either you get a google datacenter where you have 2 guards, a janitor and a maintenance guy, in return for having an overloaded electricity network so your local government blocks any further construction efforts.
Or you get a warehouse which is filled with Poles that shack up with 5 per room, get drunk on their off hours, and do not integrate at all since they're too poor and don't have time to engage in the local community.

The only reason this happens is because local government has delusions of grandeur. They want to be part of something big, they want to make a difference, they were wowed when they were given free overseas tours in the company's offices and warehouses and got to stay in expensive hotels. The only thing they have to do to make it happen is sign over their local community's wellbeing and give tax breaks.

the water usage bitching is retarded because building the facilities near large enough rivers makes that shit almost free. you don't have to build your datacenter in some arid desert where water is super scarce and expensive.

a bigger problem is electricity demand, cause unlike water that shit is not free, and expanding power production capacity is a very slow process (largely because getting all the necessary permits and complying with every applicable regulation takes a lot of time and effort)

but in my opinion by far the largest problem is that none of the AI operations they want to build these datacenters for are profitable, the whole thing is built on debt - debt that is secured by nothing but vague promises of future returns.
if those future returns don't materialize as promised then a lot of these planned megaprojects are going to stall or fail very quickly.

What are you talking about? Datacenters create viable jobs in the economy. A huge Amazon or Google data center? Do you think it just operates using cron job scripts and automation?

No it doesn't! These AI data centers are bringing a huge number of jobs to our communities. A massive AI data center that occupies a thousand square miles might result in the creation of maybe one or even two jobs!

Make sure you don't leave that part out

AI when used properly is a massive efficiency boost. A task doesn't just disappear if you snap your fingers to eliminate LLMs. You think a teaspoon of water is a lot. What about running around for 3 hours in what could have taken you 5 minutes with a chat bot's help? What about the patient that dies or the problem that goes unfixed without the gains from LLMs? How much water would that take?

Not even LLMs, just machine learning.

Found a mildly entertaining subreddit on lesbians complaining about bi women, men and sometimes straight women.

Reddit Post

According to this guy's substack, AI uses less water than almost anything else human beings do. The one that caught my eye is that a pair of leather shoes uses 2 million times as much water as a ChatGPT query. So if you thrift one pair of shoes instead of buying new, you can do 2 million "free" prompts.
Just as a heads-up, your link has a tracker attached, so you might want to edit that out if that's your profile and you don't want something linking it to your KF account.

Here's a clean link: https://andymasley.substack.com/p/the-ai-water-issue-is-fake

Wow some great quotes in that thread.

not to be #biphobic but why is it always the bi women who are EVEN MORE dickcrazy than straight women. like i have some straight friends who don’t veer into that topic with me often but every single one of my bi friends seem to want to discuss their sexual escapades with men to me. lol i love them tho, just definitely do feel ostracised a little when the entire bi friend group is just talking about shit i find unrelatable. like i may as well leave

These look to be a bunch of political lesbians who did it as a trauma response and don't actually enjoy sex with women. That these people spend all this time talking about other people talking about dick suggests they are repressed and also thinking about dick. A heady cocktail of DoorDashSyscoslop, SSRIs and birth control has them at zero libido and shaped like a buick. Every happy well-adjusted happy lesbian i know feels their sexuality is on a spectrum and enjoys dick from time to time without making a big deal about it.

Because most bisexual women aren't actually bi and are just slutty straight women who maybe had a one night stand with a girl in college and never did anything like it again and just call themselves bi for attention?

I'm just going to assume non-Americans have never played "smear the queer" so for those curious it's a game where you take a football (not soccer ball, an American football) and somebody throws it up in the air and everybody tries to catch it, whoever catches it is the "queer" and everybody else tries to tackle them. Then when they get tackled they throw the ball in the air and the cycle continues. There's not really any winning or teams, it's just a violent game of tackling the guy carrying the ball but it was a lot of fun.

I remember playing it a lot growing up in the 2000's but I don't know if kids still play it now or not.

I love the selective switch up of "Queer is reclaimed, anyone can be queer if they want to be" to "OMG QUEER IS BEING USED AS A SLUR OMG" when they want it.

The general lgbt community sure as fuck doesn't give a shit when older gay men say they don't want it to be a catch-all term for the gay community.

But if it's being used as a term for a sports
ball game played between straight men, that's horrible and a genocide obviously.

We played it all the time until the faggot teachers banned it because kids were getting hurt.

Agreed, they simp so hard for a store platform and don't even play their games on it.
Valve used to make games. If you experienced HL, CS, HL2, portal, TF2, HL episodes as they released you'd probably think they were amazing. Just like someone who experienced WC2, SC, WC3, WOW, SC2 would be a blizzard fan. The problem is that they remain fans even when it's obvious the studio is long gone.
