While I agree it's a majority of bots (hasn't it been proven?)

I think everyone becoming a random word-random word-random number username is because people who use Reddit tend to have to make multiple accounts.

It's so easy to get your account fully suspended, even if you are posting earnestly and not trolling due to the hypersensitive power mods. (Look at what happened recently with R/Art, there are definitely ways these power mods can and do fully shut your account down if they think you deserve it.)

So if you're on your third account, you kinda just don't give a shit anymore because eventually your account will get deleted again and you'll have to make another one.
 
The point I'm making is that the reddit workflow now suggests those names for you. It results in an influx of forgettable, generic names that require zero personality or human thought into the creation. I am suggesting that this was a purposeful strategy because they were planning to introduce tons of bots to the platform as "real" accounts. Creating a bot army of probably tens of thousands of accounts is easier when a naming convention like that is already standardized.

Imagine coming up with a SN that's a reference to something that exists. If I create a bot called TwixEatr, it has to at least know about Twix and have normal, expected stances on that. Remember, bots aren't useful if they're obviously bots. My profile page here has multiple people leaving comments involving Twix, some asking about different kinds, sharing memes, etc. My avatar is a tree full of Twix. So that persona would need instructions like: "Your name references this specific candy bar. If people ask you about it, you like Twix, but don't overdo it. Just act natural like a human who is fond of this candy bar." While not impossible to navigate, it's an added layer to code into a bot. It quickly adds up.

On normal, non-KF platforms, people share real details about themselves. SNs would be references to their pets, children, favorite movies and books, real names, hobbies, etc. Each of these requires extra compute to create unique personas the bot would need to understand because SN's are supposed to reveal something about the person. Just curious, but is ExplodedWhale a reference to that beached whale they dynamited the hell out of way back? A bot would need to know that.

Anyway, when everybody has the same SN, including some obviously real humans, accounts are less memorable and blend in easier. "It's just whatever name they gave me. It means nothing." And you also don't remember specific people or accounts you can go back and find or perhaps vet. It's not that plumber guy Steve something from Chicago whose profile looked credible to you. It's "people on reddit seem to think xyz," because it's not specific personalities, but faceless accounts spreading leftoid nonsense. It's all of reddit in a coordinated effort as the platform becomes a true hivemind.

At least that's how I see it.

But perhaps reddit naturally said, "What would be great for natural human interactions is to make everybody less individualistic." Even if they aren't facilitating bot persuasion, the policy invites it from whoever else. They can obviously ascertain that. Platforms this big are definitely taking full advantage of their true power–influencing public opinion–especially with Chinese investors.

It's easier to keep a bot / sock blended in when you're one of many random generated names. You notice unique looking usernames because they stand out.
 
all the downsides of anonymity (posts are easily drowned out in a sea of slop) but none of the upsides (freedom to speak your mind)
all of the downsides of an account system (reddit karma) but none of the upsides (recognition, personality, individuality)
