2 of those are restoring porn boards, when Epstein was known to use 4chan for porn. One new board is created and one is rebranded. It's not a stretch to think Epstein said "I miss /r9k/, it was full of lulz, any chance of it coming back?" and then Moot did it.

It's amazing people think it's a crazy conspiracy to say Moot may have been influenced by a conversation with Epstein. It doesn't have to be some evil Jewish scheme to control the world through 4chan and Reddit. It can just be a dude saying he misses a board and Moot changing his mind on deleting it. Epstein and Maxwell both knew the emerging social media platforms were having big influences on wider culture. They could already control the main stream stuff, and it was the new generation like Reddit and 4chan that were influencing them. So getting Moot in their pocket makes sense in terms of their strategy, they even talk about how sensitive Moot is, which means they're trying to weigh him up. It doesn't mean he was their puppet or that they were planning a big scheme.

In the end, neither of us can prove what Moot or Epstein spoke about. If you think they just chatted about how cool Trains and Origami are then good for you. We're never going to know what happened between them, and so you have to decide how much influence did Epstein have over Moot. It's a reasonable conclusion to think he had more or less and Epstein influenced 4chan in some way.

I think we'd both agree it was /pol/ that took it mainstream not /r9k/ though. /r9k/ tried to reclaim pepe with poopoo and peepee variants, but that didn't last very long.

I don't think /pol/ was a containment board like the spin off gaming boards are. I think it existed because/new/ was a fun board to shit post on. And taking away a popular board was something Moot had his mind changed on. The same /r9k/ returned (but had a totally different culture), /new/ also returned but had a different title as it was not strictly a news board. Something made Moot regret deleting those boards and changed his mind. We'll never know what.

I agree that /pol/ made Pepe mainstream but only insofar as /pol/ made all of 4chan mainstream. And it's not like pepe wasn't already adapting and morphing to fit the rest of the boards as well as leaking out of 4chan organically anyways. Memes are memetic, they spread, and as they spread they change, but they don't magically lose their point of origin when someone new adopts them and mildly changes them.

my impression is that over time most of the people who liked punk rock for the actual music (fast, hard, loud, distorted guitars) left it behind and became metalheads, because metal with its dozens of subgenres is where you can find that type of music in much higher quality and with much more variety.
the people who stuck with punk instead were the ones who didn't care that much about the music itself and were more interested in the aesthetic of being a loudmouthed contrarian who larps about being a 'rebel' against society and has to let everyone know about it.

This shit is a big reason why stopped listening to most punk music compared to when I was younger, what seemed to be fun, angry music, quickly devolved into this leftist field day with no room for any differing opinions.
