I hate when games listen to reddit on balance chances in games. The communities just want bland games and hate any decks or comps where they can't lucksack people using them. Nothing can do anything unique, there has to be a rock-paper-scissors meta, and tier 1 decks have to have an instant win card that prevents people from playing something slightly off-meta and winning with skill.

Not just a Reddit problem at this point. This kind of attitude infects any game that tries to promote their "competitive" scene for wannabe e-sporters. If a game promotes some bs ranking mode, you're gonna bet people will want to change the entire game to have some ridiculously bland balancing and fixes to anything actually fun. TF2 is a good example - luckily Valve just straight up barely updates the game anymore.

The sad part is that most of the players in the games are shit and the games just nerf the skill ceiling. Especially if it's a turn-based game, if you learned the meta and had any decent strategy you'd just stomp most of ladder and get to a high ranking. It's people who only care about winning, but refuse to get good.

I've had this problem with fighting games recently. It's not a bad thing per se to simplify your game if it gets rid of convoluted mechanics. Think Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. They trimmed a lot of the fat but still kept the complexity the series is known for. But now not only are fighting games more homogenized and scrubbified by adding in more comeback mechanics and simplifying movesets so that one move can do like 4 things at once, the availability of easy patching leads to the same boring balancing where every character ends up being the same. For example, at first some character mains bitch how their character does low combo damage despite having a good neutral game, so his combo damage gets buffed. Then, the character mains who have a character with high combo damage but shitty neutral game bitch about their garbo neutral game, so it gets buffed. Rinse and repeat until every character is just a different skin and they just basically do different animations for the same move.
The irony here is that the same small fish that bitch about having their characters buffed and the games more casualized will never be able to escape their tiny little ponds anyway, it just gives them a slightly higher chance to get a fluke win against someone from a slightly bigger pond. They'd still get peaced out by anyone who actually at least tries to learn and get better at the game. The big fish will always be big fish no matter if they play a game with convoluted mechanics out the ass or if they play the same game, just casualized for a lower skill and lower IQ audience.

I remember back when I use to play dota character and item balance was a constant headache, valve had a habit of nerfing severely or buffing to broken levels with not much in between. Then you'd have people that would only play broken characters for easy stomps, who would feed to anyone who knew how to counter the character, that would start raging when valve eventually nerfs the hero into the ground. They would just rely on the broken nature of a character or character + item combo while never getting any better at the game or even figure out how best to use a character.
You'd end up with a lot of the same team comps as people scrambled to grab/ban the broken characters each patch, while picking a non-meta character might cause whining of "throwing the game" to appear in the chat. Wouldn't even matter if you were just playing a match of casual, you'd still have people whining you weren't playing comp meta. I've no idea if this is still a problem, haven't played in years.
