They really don’t, I’ve seen a lot of videos of accidents in China to know they just bumble around with no awareness of their surroundings. Two notable examples is an old dude on a mobility scooter trying to ram through an elevator door. The elevator is obviously out of commission but that won’t stop him, so than he falls to his death. The other is a woman getting trapped in an automated car elevator while never looking up from her phone.
The Asian bugmen theory seems to be more and more probable, with Chinese being the ultimate bug people. Asian states were always super homogenous whereas Western states even in the Middle Ages had some degree of individualism.
