Redfall. - I'm not angry, just...disappointed.

Just for a bit of extra context, one of the female main secondary characters was in a relationship with the player character, whose gender is selected at the start of the game.

It's inoffensive, but still pretty cringeworthy because it's once again young lesbians (such as the Asian nerd character on a quest to save her waifu), the safest form of diversity. There was a similar thing either Emily's "ambiguous" partner in Dishonoured 2, who was clearly written and treated as a woman, lmao
Every female character that I can think of in Dishonored 2 was some flavor of lesbian, except for Hypatia. It stuck out like a sore thumb at the time and made difficult to get immersed.

Deathloop.
people tend to have short memories.
The only people that don't like Prey are literal shit eating retards who can't play any game that doesn't let them win by holding up on the left analog stick and pressing A now and then. Modern day gamers, basically.
which prey? the 2006 one or the 2017 one?
one is fun because of the strogg-style ayy lmaos and fucking around in weird angles, the other is meh because it tries to ape system shock and fails, i'll let you decide which one is best.
Another drop in the bucket for associating games with covers that focus on black people being low quality shit.
you assume it's shit because it's black pyipo on cover, i assume it's shit because it's arkane studios and know they couldn't hit well after dishonored 1 for fuck's sake and that was only because people were thirsty for stealth gaems, dishonored 2 being praised by game journos for muh story rather than gameplay which was said to be like dishonored 1 should have tipped you off.

This might seem like a petty complaint given how shit the performance and bugs are but why are all the vampires wearing identical trench coats with popped collars?

They're not an organized army with a uniform, this is a virus that turns ordinary people into vampires so they should mostly be wearing their street clothes or whatever they were wearing when they turned right?

Does the virus automatically give you a trench coat when you become a vampire?
With modern millennial writing it's probably yes.

According to Skillup and others there is almost no story or writing at all. All of the exposition is delivered via audio logs Fallout 76 style.

Which I guess to be fair was also mostly the case with Dishonored and Prey but those were at least fun.

Was it Bioshock that killed game writing by making people believe they can just have audio logs tell the story (while ignoring atmosphere and environmental storytelling)?

Maybe? Metal Gear had it's codec thing where like 80% of the exposition was delivered during audio calls way earlier than that but for whatever reason it worked in those games.

How was Prey woke? It's been years since I've played it, but I can't really remember anything being woke about it.
There's some lesbian shit in it, outside of that not really anything else other than having a Asian protagonist as well

Yeah but codec calls at least had a lot of personality in them and actually had the main character interacting with the setting.
Yea I think you're right. The thing where you just stand there while an audio log belches exposition with no back and forth dialogue probably did start with Bioshock unless some other more obscure game did it first.

They all decided to dress and the same way so no one in real life would recognize any individual one of them from being part of this shit game

It's quite sad that the only memorable part of Redfall is the Black lady.

Well, one of them was a troon.

To be fair, the only major character I can think of that's mentioned to be a lesbian in dialogue in the game itself was the villain and some of her coven. Which is a lot of characters relative to the minimal cast, but I didn't care too much because I spent that mission choking all of them out, and used Far Reach to throw Delilah off of a cliff.

Granted when you look into the notes and journals you find out that pretty much every woman is into women. Emily has a love letter that never specifies her lover's sex (even though the name is basically the word woman but y instead of the o), but I think I remember someone from the studio said Emily was supposed to be bi which is why they didn't specify. Billy Lurk has a letter from a female ex. Hell, Aramis Stilton is also gay, though that was more implied than the others being outright stated. For how small the cast of major characters is, the percentage that are some flavor of LGBT is insane.

This title has "rushed development" plastered all over it. At this point Bethesda Softworks is like an industry hex.

It wouldn't surprise me if it came out that resources and personnel were diverted to some other project midway through.

It was in development for 6 years apparently. The most likely culprit for the state of it is a huge shift in focus at some point.

I figure it was supposed to be a stage-based L4D clone much like Back4Blood and once that game started showing up at the game expos Arkane hastily cobbled together a barren open world to try to make Redfall stand out.

>Shown off with cinematic trailer at E3 2021
>Inititial release of Summer 2022
>Delayed in May 2022 to "Early 2023", with no gameplay shown
>Gameplay preview in March, release in May, it's shit

Now I really wanna know how the game was looking back in 2021 and 2022. The co-director originally promised "deep worldbuilding" and "inventive game mechanics", only to release a game with zero story or world, and the most basic gunplay/talent tree shit imaginable. Did Bethesda suits just walk into the Arkane Austin office at the start of 2022, see they had nothing to show, and then start cracking the whip? Who dropped the ball, and how far back was it?

So THIS is next gen gaming. No AI, slideshow cutscenes, 30fps, exposition dumps and staged environments.
I am watching this and I can't even believe it. Empty maps, enemies that hit a chair without trying to kill you, enemies shooting shotguns from miles away with the pellets hitting everything but you, and they don't try to come closer, bosses that die in 3 sniper bullets.
Absolutely stunning, incredible stuff.

This is only the second time I've seen after Saints Woke that you can actually hear Skillup's voice crack with frustration and barely restrained anger during a review.

Yikes.
