That's what a lot of us like about Len. He does what a lot of us wanted to do- make dumb movies about whatever our nerdy obsession was. He's legitimately living the dream.
 
He also does take criticism; like when he realized that one movie he made was filmed mostly at a Dutch Angle and tended to focus on the wrong part of the scene.

What I'm trying to say is that Len probably should've directed Last Jedi. I'd have loved to see a badly filmed kung fu fight between Rey and himself as the Chief Enforcer of Lord Snoke.
