Regarding the apparent and imminent repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and the future of this website.

Well this is a fantastic way to start the day. At least I'll have a couple dope hoodies to remember y'all by.

It's necessary to bring Big Tech to the negotiating table. I find the selective censorship and the insertion of Twitter commentary on tweets and YouTube commentary on videos to be a very troubling trend. If the threat of blowing up 230 has people quaking in their boots, then good. That gives me hope that those people will be willing to come to the negotiating table and compromise.

That's sad but LADIES AND GUNTLEMEN don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened. In case this all goes down just like the pioneers we will conquer new frontiers. Autism is unstoppable. We will create Web 3.0 down in the darkness if we have to. I've got to say though in case it all goes down it has been a pleasure ayy-lawwging with you bastards.

Russian sites are Russian, SF is hosted by AA who is currently in parts unknown and has a multi-million dollar judgement against him in the US. Read OP for my opinions on this. SF has a very complicated and ever changing hosting situation.
Is Hosting in Russia an option? there should be a way to get you out of the line of fire with shell companies.

On the one hand: fuck. On the other, the cope when it turns out Daddy was the one to bring down the Farms.
no please i come from there and there is nothing left on that website.

Yep, reddit is heavily sanitised nowadays thanks to the userbase crying on the regular about 'promoting radicalisation' or some shit in order to get rid of any wrongthink. The closest equivalent to this site, r/drama, has been completely defanged just to avoid being banned.

@Null Can you quote us figure of how much would it cost to operate website in Section 230 Absent situation ? Even Chan gets Ads, I think before closing you should try to see if we can indeed keep this online regardless, you would be surprised what people can do if they want to be defiant.
It's simply not a number that he can calculate. If 230 is repealed outright, then even FB and Twitter won't have enough money to defend all the lawsuits they would have coming their way. Mentioned this before in a different 230 thread, but this site has threads on both the Westboro Baptist Church and the Church of Scientology.

Null, with a full 230 repeal, would now be the proud owner of EVERY libelous comment in these threads.

And these are just two threads, there are multiple Scientology threads, and Westboro is mentioned in hundreds of non-Westboro threads. For those not in the know, these churches are two of the most litigious entities on the face of the Earth. Scientology alone is not only litigious, but is essentially a cult of thousands of Vordraks, well-skilled in sophisticated harassment of their enemies outside of the courtroom. They have entire squadrons of private eyes (some who are also believers) and former CIA and FBI dirty tricks operators on their payroll. Scientology alone is enough to completely ruin whatever is left of Null's life, and they are just one of thousands of people and orgs that hate this site.

I doubt that full repeal will happen as the tech lobbyists are fucking beasts who own much of Congress, including "free speech" Republicans. My guess is that either a) Trump backs down from military pressure or b) Congress comes up with a slapdash bill that doesn't change much, but that Trump can call a "victory". Keep in mind, Trump has a long habit of making statements on Twitter, then when the press actually asks the White House or government Department they get "there are no plans to do so at this time". Trump is a troll, never forget that, and one of the best of all time. He is not tech-savvy, but he is people-savvy.

Also, the entire concept of "revenge on Twitter and Facebook" is laughable to me. I hate Dorsey, Zuckerberg, and their companies, but the way corporate America works makes it very hard to really fuck with its titans. Great, so Facebook and Twitter go out of business ( I would not be sad for a second)... but every person who has been with the company for awhile and makes all the decisions we hate is likely a multi-millionaire and will just move on with their lives at their Hawai'i estates. The only people that will truly be fucked by this will be a) internet users who value open dialogue (us) and b) the low-paid workers at those companies, who likely hate their jobs and the company, and just want to feed their kids. Zuck, Jack, etc. will just walk this off and move onto some other project. Twitter and Facebook haven't done illegal things (that I know of at least) so nobody is going to jail like you might see in other corporate takedowns. This isn't just about Kiwi Farms, if 230 goes away through hard repeal, ANY site or social media platform that doesn't shut down commenting immediately is run by morons. No site can possibly keep up with all the shit they would need to moderate to stay safe from lawyers.

Keep in mind, too, that Trump has NEVER been a "free speech advocate". Yes, he is throwing some red meat to his followers, but people seem to forget that he is the first president I can recall to openly call for REMOVING the free speech protections that protect criticism of public figures. I suspect his real motivation is not "free speech" but to make it harder for his enemies to talk shit about him on the Internet without getting sued. He has been clear about that since even before getting elected, while his 230 stance is a more recent development. These two stances are not "at odds with each other". They fit like hand and glove, but a lot of his supporters are too dumb to see this. It is far more upsetting to him that people can libel him all they want on the Internet than it is that his fans can't call people kikes on Twitter or whatever.

The declaration came at a Fort Worth, Texas, rally in February 2016. Trump said he planned to "open up our libel laws so when they write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money."

He may puff out his chest and act like the most manly man who ever manned... but in reality, he is a thin-skinned silver spoon snowflake who seethes and stews over the slightest criticism like Chantal.

imho a similar site can very well reopen in Russia, there's hardly ever any word against Bossman here already. We argue about Trump or England or Western Europe or some other place but never, ever anything about the Bossman in Moscow, I think he would allow the site, just then someone has to run it.

Boohoo, at least big tech won't be able to spread their globohomo garbage and make everything worse.

It's a tolerable sacrifice.
Who says they won't? They will either have to completely close social media because it will not be financially feasible to run for reasons stated in OP (even Twitter can't afford 1000 lawsuits a day), or they will moderate even heavier than they already do since they have nothing to lose anymore. If there is no longer a distinction between publisher and platform, which such a step would result in, then why should they even keep *pretending* to be neutral? Any reason they even pretend is that they want to keep the protections; if they lose the protections anyway, may as well go full retard.

We should be so lucky.
