Regarding the apparent and imminent repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act and the future of this website.

Not quite the same thing though Pornhub's getting reamed cause they had CP on their site and understandably big banks want nothing to do with that shit.
I'm well aware of the context, but Visa is effectively saying that complying with section 230 isn't enough, which for a company unable to develop and afford AI seek and destroy bots is an unreasonable standard, add to this senators like Hawley cheerleading Visa and MC's actions.

My point wasn't that the situation was the same, but rather than even in a 1 month time period boomers are lining up for a part 2 before part 1 has even finished echoing in the halls of congress.

I wonder how this repeal or reform would impact internet porn.
Porn would be fine except for revenge porn, and copyright infringing porn is already fairly easy to get taken down. Places like PornHub might have to be quicker on the draw taking down shit that is revenge porn or otherwise causes civil liability though because they could be sued now for that.
Calling i2p a freenet clone is pretty wildly inaccurate. i2p is an anonymous network layer; freenet is a distributed and decentralized information storage and retrieval system.
Yeah you're right, it was a dumb thing to say. It's still the doom of any protocol, system, service, or any other way of getting anonymity that it's going to end up with a bad reputation and largely going to be used for illegal or at least unsavory purposes.
This might be a stupid question, but if NDAAs only started being used in 1967, how was the military funded before then?
It used to be the Appropriations Committees could just authorize military spending on their own so they established the NDAA process to ensure that military spending had to be authorized in advance by the full Congress. Source.

That isn't a new thing though Null has said he's been banned from ever major payment platform for years because of this place and Paypal's hatred of porn is well known.

Section 230 just protects you from legal liability banks can still choose to fuck you over.

Trust me, I know the details. I've explained the exact workings of this system to people IRL and on the net.

My point is that the boomers are lining up to "help" which is new, and if the boomers are getting involved in even a cheerleading capacity that doesn't bode well. Usually these corps say nothing, the thanos snap happens without anyone being told anything useful, and nobody is any the wiser.

Edit: I don't think we fundamentally disagree on the details here, I just think the boomers are lining up to make things even worse and you hold the less apocalyptic position.

I don't think in this lame duck session with so little occurring that somehow Section 230 will take precedent over other bills or other legislation. For Biden, he'll obviously fuck with it in some sort of way in the coming years, but with Corona and the implications of section 230, I find it very hard to believe they'll press forward on such a nebulous policy when there's far more pressing concerns. Shit will hit the fan at some point, but it seems far more of a distant problem with Biden in office. A large reason why Trump likely wanted section 230 repealed was cause he had telecom companies talking in his ear and begging for a sweetheart deal, while wanting to bring the pressure to "big tech".
When Biden mentions section 230, it's always in the context of Facebook or bigger social media sites too, so I'm not sure his personal view on smaller social media websites or the additional protections he might grant them over bigger ones. It's clear that internet policy isn't a 70yo+ man's strong suit and that's for the betterment of everybody.
Vindicated, imagine thinking Trump could pass major internet legislation during such a politically divided time in a lame duck session. If Trump could barely do it a few years ago, he's certainly not going to do it with so little time left.

He doesn't really have time to introduce new legislation. Congress is going into recess right now and new legislation won't really be on the table until Biden takes over in January.

So the sky is currently not falling then I take it.
Yes, albeit possibly just because the Orange Moron picked the absolute worst thing to flex on, the national defense budget, at the worst time, and against the worst body, the Senate, where the rules specifically prohibit non-germane amendments, probably because even after four years he has no clue how any of this works.

So how much money did FAANG use to pay off congress with kek

IDK if you're non-American or this is more evidence of the consequences of us abandoning civics education in public schooling, but the president has to sign any bill Congress comes up with before it's actually law. When he refuses to, it's called a veto, and prevents said law from taking effect. If Congress re-approves the law with a 2/3rds majority instead of just a raw majority, they can override his veto attempt.

Basically a large majority of Congress heard Trump threaten to veto next year's military spending bill if they didn't break the internet as part of it, and subsequently told him to fuck off.
Just another part of public education failing us. But thanks

"Im gonna block government spending and potentially cuck hundreds of thousands of government workers out of their wages because of a slapfight I had on twitter with it's CEO."
haha what a faggot. orange man gay
Can we dispense with the bullshit that he’s some kind of alpha male? This is the most bitch-made and effeminate thing to do ever, like something a misogynist strawman of a female president would do in a dystopian novel written by Matt Forney.
