Sure, I usually watch The Hill or Politico just for the info, but I use my own mind to discern things. They're all a bunch of fucking idiots imo. I think there's still strong bipartisan support in Congress for the general laissez-faire attitude towards the Internet that has made it possible for the U.S. to remain the predominant Internet force, but who knows? Things can always go bad.

I would agree with everything you say except that censoring the internet seems to be a big issue all across the west at the moment on both sides of the political spectrum and I have little faith in anyone to do the right thing. Maybe as you say the US Congress might slap this shit down regardless of where it's coming from. In this ideal scenario hopefully it would set a legal example for other western countries to emulate. But Trump, Biden, Trudeau, the EU control freaks, all of them are scary morons that make ridiculous statements on this matter and none of them should have any more say over how the internet functions than they do currently. It's working perfectly fine as is and any meddling will just wreck it and have far-reaching effects. They know they could solve a lot of their political obstacles if they censor the internet in the way they want it to be and it's disturbing as fuck.

I particularly agree with your statement about Biden, he definitely has much more knowledge of how the House operates than Trump did, so this is something to be wary of in the upcoming years, and it will probably come in a somewhat tamer form of all the nebulous "hate speech" laws we're seeing proposed in Canada and Europe by the left and sometimes the right as a means to censor the internet. There also seems to be a tendency at least in Canada on both the left and right to give more power to ISPs for reasoning akin to that behind Trump's repeal of net neutrality by the FCC in 2018. The rough equivalents to the FCC, Industry Canada and the CRTC, are bureaucratic nightmares that have massively fucked over Canadian consumers by essentially working entirely in favour of telecommunications companies since the inception of the internet regardless of the ruling party, and as a result we have the most expensive internet and phone bills on the planet, all done in the name of ISP "innovation" despite there being only 3 major companies that dominate the market and the services they provide being slower and shittier than those provided in other countries. I'm not well versed on what the Republicans before Trump's leadership had to say about internet freedom but I'm willing to bet like issues in the past they vaguely talk a big game about freedom at all costs as the opposition, however if in power they collectively would change their tune to be more similar to what we hear Trump say even if he doesn't run again.
