Relativity Unknown Games

I couldn't tell you if this game series was relatively unknown at the time, but it is now, mostly because it's so old:

The Journeyman Project Series.

Trilogy of games where you play as an agent of a sort of temporal police force, tasked with going back in time to fix fuckups. I've actually only played the first game and parts of the third. The first game reminded me a lot of Myst in that you were alone for (most of) the game and it was quiet and in most cases you were left alone to explore and soak up info.

let me tell you about 1nsane:
1nsane for it's time was a huge game
it had a dozen maps, and each map was pretty big for the time
also it had modding.
nothing was cooler than offroading with wheelchairs

Don't know if this counts but I feel Kings Field is relatively unknown enough to have its own fanbase. It was the first series From Software ever worked on.
It's a first person game where you pretty much explore areas and swing your weapon at bad guys and monsters. Anything from the Souls games such as the Moonlight sword and the health and stamina bar can be traced back to King's Field.
As for the fandom, there use to be a fan site that stood around for a long time until maybe around 2013 where it pretty much died as in the website just redirects to those sites that give of similar or search links.

Never played the games myself, but I do remember seeing a video of a guy playing the first game for the first time.

Anyway for me that would be Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. I'm not sure if it's THAT obscure, but I don't see many people talk about it.

This was a third person shooter where you played as a little yellow droid named "Glitch". I guess if I could compare this game to anything, it would probably be Ratchet and Clank. You have a large arsenal of weapons at your disposal, from the standard machine gun, missile launcher, ect. to some of the more creative weapons like the Ripper and the Control Tether. The former of which cuts off or damages enemy limbs while the latter allows you to take control of your enemies provided you can get behind them.

What's interesting about the enemies of these games is that they react depending on what parts of their body you damage. For example, say you're facing a Mil Grunt, if you hit his torso enough, it bends over and he runs around in circles firing wildly as he can't see where's he's going. If you shoot his arm enough times, it blows up or goes limp, so he can't fire or throw grenades, (depending on which arm you shoot at) The enemies in this game also have a lot of personality to them as well. They react to them getting shot by friendly fire, they run around and scream whenever they are heavily damaged, ect.

The game had some variety in it's missions as well. In addition to the standard point A to point B missions, you also had vehicle missions, protecting a town, a few missions that have you play as different characters, and a mission where you infiltrate a spy factory where you pass yourself off as a spy so you can acquire a special chip.

The story itself is nothing revolutionary, but it's decent for what it is. The characters are fun and diverse. Particularly the foul mouthed droid mechanic Krunk.

This game unfortunately ended on somewhat of a cliffhanger, and there were plans for sequels that would reveal more of the world of this game and Glitch's origins. However, the game didn't sell very well and due to some legal stuff with Activision, of which I don't know all the details, the franchise may never see the light of day again.

It's a damn shame really. This was a fun as hell game. It deserved a lot better.

If you want to play it for yourself, it's available on the PSN and (if it's still around) XBOX Live on the 360.

If you can, I'd recommend the XBOX or GameCube Version as the PS2 suffers from lower frame rate and the graphics and sound quality take a bit of a dip.

Glover, that had to be one of the strangest hardest games I ever played. I don't think I ever beaten it. *sigh*

Glover was the SHIT. I always liked Sonic Shuffle, and I've never seen anyone ever mention it. It was a Mario Party rip-off with Sonic characters for the Dreamcast.

Those were among my favorites when I was a kid. They recently re-released them on GOG so you can run them on new computers. The developer actually went on to make one of the Myst sequels.

I saw! I was contemplating grabbing them, but I don't want to ruin the nostalgia, you know? I already know that they're the kind of games hat don't age well, in game play and in graphics.

The Myst game hey developed, 3, is actually my favorite in the series.
