Remember when "Climate Change" was a subversive Republican name change? - IT'S GLOBAL WARMING

I didn't grow up with "Climate Change", it was GLOBAL WARMING. EVERYTHING IS GETTING HOTTER, MUH GREENHOUSE GASES. The Ozone is going to disappear. We'll have to grow Oranges in Alaska! The horror oh the humanity.

Well I remember back in the 2000s Democrats tardraged over the relatively unknown Bush staffer Frank Luntz because the Bush Admin referred to it as Climate Change. To my surprise this segment is still preserved on Wikipedia but I couldn't find any other source whining about it beyond that and the citation from The Guardian. But the seething they had over the term "Climate Change" well it was much akin to how they call anyone who is skeptical of the Science to be "deniers."

I really don't have much to say, I don't know shit about Climate Change I'm not some big egghead like Al Gore or Leonardo Dicaprio. I just find it funny that eventually Climate Change became the preferred designation because how could Democrats complain about Global Warming if the populace is dealing with a winter storm like the one going on now? I do get where they were coming from Global Warming sounds scary where Climate Change just doesn't have much urgency. Maybe they should call it TOTAL GLOBAL DEATH?

'Tis nothing new.

I was child of the 70s and there were plenty of doomsday predictions back then. Seychelles to be under water any day now, oil and gas to run out by end of century and global warming, but we took it with a pinch of salt.

Now there's an entirely new environmental audience taking this crap a little too seriously.

"Climate change" lets them label every single event (within a cyclical and chaotic system) as evidence that we need to give politicians eleventy gorillion more tax dollars and accept more restrictions on our lives. Every outcome proves them correct.

Like so many other "crises" (raycisms etc), there is no objective goal or measure of progress to either hold them accountable, or give us any timeline for success, because that would put a potential end to the grift and funding and NGO sinecures. So you get vague terminology, and an annual pat on the back because "we've accomplished so much, but there's still so much more work to do", so your reward for paying for their bs last year is to pay even more for it this year.

I remember when we were all gonna stave in the 1970s because of overpopulation. There's of course the famous "Global Ice Age" scare of the same period that every single website today will scream "NU-UH THAT WAS UH FAKE NEWS BY RACISTS ONLINE THAT NEVER HAPPENED" whenever you try to look it up online.

Mister Spock warned me that the big freeze was coming when I was a wee lad in short pants.

Getting lost in the linguistic minutiae of which politician or party pretends to be mad about this or that nonsense issue of the week is beside the point. They're ALL out to screw you unless you have enough money to be part of the donor class and don't make too many public waves.

Climate change is more accurate, even if the average temperature and rainfall increases there will still be places that get colder or drier.

It's also been happening for about 4.5 billion years.
No no, the climate was entirely static until some time in the 1880s, which is when western industrialisation, caused by FUCKING WHITE MALES, destabilised the perfect atmosphere and doomed us to boil alive in a venus hothouse.

Global warming is a more accurate name. Too bad 70iq retards took that to mean "there's no global warming because I gots a snowball dddddddd" since they can't understand the most basic of concepts.
The Ozone is going to disappear.
That was a different issue entirely and was for the most part solved due to sensible government regulations that resulted in the phasing out of many chemicals/substances.

Shocking to think things might have changed since the 70s right? Agricultural practices have gotten better and far more efficient on every single level. If we were still farming and distributing food like it was 1970 many people very well might have starved, but technology saves the day.

It also helps that population growth has slowed over time too.

I agree with first part of your post, but don't believe for one minute that an apparent hole in the ozone layer was fixed by government intervention. I'm not buying it because it's ridiculous.

I remember when it was called POLLUTION and it was caused by factories, vehicles with big engines, and things going on fire.

Now that there are clean air laws that have guidelines for preventing that sort of thing, and factories are discouraged from dumping their waste wherever whenever, it is better. Ask any older person that lived in Los Angeles during the '70s what the air was like.

I won't be worried about the environment until I see cruise ships and private planes outlawed.

I do remember. And I remember when Al Gore politicized Katrina to be about global warming, claiming that it was causing more severe hurricanes. Which isn't true, btw, and why you've not heard about it since.

CO2 is a red herring when it comes to pollution, and it's used as a cudgel to beat white developed countries over the head with regulations and shame them for living their lives, while the entire rest of the world goes about polluting their countries and the oceans with plastic, heavy metals, and unprocessed sewage. Just the stuff that actually matters, you know. But hey, white people should stop driving gas cars to work and instead drive this electric car instead, powered by COAL and with a gigantic UNREPAIRABLE BATTERY because it "cuts down on the carbon footprint" or something.

Can you tell I have a bit of a bone to pick?

Does your car and fridge use R-11? Are Halon systems still being installed? Do your aresol cans still contain CFCs? No and it comes down to regulations by governments.

The ozone isn't "fixed" we just took major steps to prevent it getting worse and right now it's still in the process of recovering.

I think THIS time though they know what they're talking about. I mean we got an autistic Swedish girl speaking on their behalf now.

You're not wrong at all it's just an interesting rarity where the Democratic Party actually adopted the right wing terminology despite initial abhorrence. Usually the Democrats who dominate in propaganda and messaging control the jargon we use. E.g. Illegal Alien was twisted to Illegal Immigrant and finally Undocumented Citizen. That one always gets me because the implication of Undocumented Citizen is that they're not only citizens but the blame lies on the nation for them not being documented.

I still like "Total Global Death", I really think that's what environmentalists should use.

I appreciate you coming into the thread with an opposing viewpoint. I will fully concede I don't understand jack shit about Science so who the hell am I to argue over polar ice caps and sea levels? But anyway how do you feel about the reality that Total Global Death Propaganda has fallen victim to false prophets wanting attention and fame? Al Gore proclaimed Florida would sink in "An Inconvenient Truth." If the planet is at peril (which I accept it could indeed be true) I feel people like Gore are guilty of the "Boy Who Cried Wolf." Skeptics aren't created out of thin air, they're made because schmucks like me remember predictions that the Earth would be doomed by 20XX and then it doesn't happen.

Well, if we're comparing notes, my favorite politically convenient euphemism is "Enhanced Interrogation technique". It's just such a horrifically slimy way to describe what's actually going on that I love it.

Lol. yeah I'm sure the population growth rate decreasing by 1% over 50 years matters more than the population tripling in that same time frame.
"Let's ignore the rest of the post that was of significantly more consequence".

It's widely expected global population will peak within this century.

It's like anything unfortunately. Grifters are gonna grift, anything for a buck.
I feel people like Gore are guilty of the "Boy Who Cried Wolf."
They are and they've done significant damage to both public understanding of the issue and public trust.
