I went to the Renaissance fair recently and enjoyed it for the most part, there was plenty of friendly, welcoming people there and great entertainment. The two big problems I had was the paid parking and the crowded roads that made it hard to navigate and then there were the fags in leather gimp suits and dog masks walking around while there were parents with their children.

Those degenerates insert themselves into every community and every space they can. Organizers of events really need to grow some balls and tell them to fuck off with the fetish shit.

That aside I've found renaissance fairs are a good time overall. Crowded roads are a given with any public event, but I would be a bit put off by paid parking like you were.

I'd say they're worth going to if you're into that kind of thing or just have time to kill. There's something for everyone at them.

I've visited the local ren fair a couple of times as a kid and enjoyed it then. Not sure how much I'd enjoy it now as an adult though. I'd hate to go there only to end up seeing people being degenerate in public.

As a kid I liked the pirate weekends and the trial & dunk, and as an adult I liked getting drunk on mead. It's been six or seven years since I've gone and I don't live anywhere near one anymore. I remember seeing people in steampunk outfits and low effort homestuck costumes the last time I went but thankfully no furries, gimps, or leatherfags.

It's one of those things that I can see getting very gay very fast if it hasn't already once the period larper boomer and gen xer organizers call it and give way to faggot theater kids.

My ranking of types of people I saw at the last Ren Fest from most to least authentic:
Retired Gen X couple who hand made every part of their outfit > deus vult guys > middle-aged women in full Renaissance gowns > guys in assassin's creed cosplay > teenage girls in peasant dresses > teenage girls in burning man+fairy wings outfits

It's a fun time. Drink some beer and people watch.

always wanted to go to one as a kid, they looked fun, but i dont live anywhere close to one. if i ever get a chance to go to one ill definitely try to check it out.

Yes that's all well and good but most important: did you buy and eat a roast turkey leg?

I went to one a long time ago, I dressed up like a king and I was roleplaying as one. I was only able to rape TWO women before some people made a scene and threatened to call the police. I said: "PRITHEE GOOD SIRS, WHAT ARE THINE POLICE THOU SPEAK OF?" They kept saying shit like: "It's not cool bro!" and I was like: "KNEEL BEFORE THINE KING, THOU ARE ALL AKIN TO OEDIPUS!" Then a bunch of fags dressed like knights dragged me off and literally threw me out the gate. I stood up, brushed myself off, and said: "More like renaissance unfair, am I right?" to no one in particular, then went home. Probably wouldn't go again.

There used to be a local ren faire that I went to for a few years, it was really small and casual but charming. Was sad to find out it eventually closed down. I'd love to attend some more, larger-scale ones in the future.

My local one is a bit to popular and it's ended becoming mainly just an outdoor mall. It's fun seeing the costumes and theres some great stuff like fire jugglers, plays, falconry, petting zoos and the joust that's always fun but to get to it you have to slowly dredge though hundreds of awful shops selling mall ninja slop and cheap Chinese niknaks sold at 200 percent mark up. There's one or two actual homemade crafts and local painters but 99% is just shit from Amazon. There is fun to be had but it's popularity has basically made it more like a pop culture convention compared to an actual fair

plenty of those still around, I even saw two women in anime cosplay shouting about how they must duel to the death. I'd gladly take that over the gays though.
Name and shame them in public and they will get the message. Those furfags at the big Texas Renfaire try that shit and I legit tell them to leave me the fuck alone. That fur shit belongs in shitty convention centers.

Heading to Texas rennfest this fall. Should be fun. Last one I went to locally was overrun with trannies, I expect Texas will be no different but a fall rennfest sounds nice.
If it's TRF and you want any pointers, feel free to PM me. I have gone a bunch of times and know the ins and outs.

I went to the biggest one in my state. It was charming, 99% of people were in costume and there to have a good time. There were a few people cosplaying as anime or vidya characters but they were in the extreme minority. The food and booze were reasonably priced, the other vendors were fairly overpriced but it's not like you go to a ren faire to buy a sword if you're hurting for money. Most of the entertainment was free, watching jousts, people wailing on each other with rubber swords, and community theatre rejects acting out some story on stage didn't cost anything other than the admission fee. If you're of the racist persuasion, it was extremely white, even the darkies were obviously the autistic nerd type so everyone fit in. My only complaint is that the theatre part was pretty soy, but what can you expect from ren faire theatre kids?
It is very important that you go to one in fall when the weather is mild, you don't want to be in a crowd of fat sweaty overdressed nerds.
Overall would recommend if you are on the fence about it, but if the idea of a ren faire is too autistic for you, you're not going to enjoy it.

I've not been to one in a long ass time but I enjoyed it when I was younger. Hoping to go back at some point provided I have the time. I've been told the ones out oer in Euroupe are a lot more historical focused and better if you happen to be more into the history of it while the US ones are more larpy, but still fun.

I didn't particularly notice any smell, although I would say if you do over dress do it when it's cool. I went in as a full black Teutonic knight and had to frequently take off my helmet to not overheat.
