Agreed, interesting set up but once it's revealed what's going on the whole thing is silly and has nothing to do with the rest of the series storyline.

Playing all the games back to back last year really made it clear how much a final confrontation with Umbrella and Spencer was being set up and how much RE4 veering off from that just doesn't really work.

I mean Capcom has re-released RE4 so many times certainly they've got to realize that people are probably a bit sick of it and RE4 Remake needs to be significantly different, right? If it actually turns out to be Leon infiltrating Spencer castle I'd shit a solid gold brick.

Though unfortunately one issue with that would be the fact that they skipped a Code Veronica remake, which heavily sets up the whole "founders of Umbrella" thing.
If they fuck with RE4 in any way story-wise in the remake I will be pissed. If we have to have a remake for 4, it better be as stupid and funny as I remember it and involve the Plagas. I really don't give a shit that they dropped the Umbrella plotline if 5 was the best they could come up with.

Anyone tried out the HD Mod for RE4? It definitely looks alot better.
It genuinely looks great. The only bug I've run into is Ada's Bowgun ammo being invisible.

It was not the best they could up with, the original screenwriter for RE4's script went unused (some elements were later used in the game Haunting Ground) and he tragically died before 5 was made.

So sitting somewhere in Capcom's vaults is I'm sure a more satisfying end to Umbrella, why shouldn't Capcom do something with it?

Ideally what they should do is RE4 Remake should be two games in one, one is a remake of the Las Plagas original, the other would be a "what if" scenario recreating the unused script for RE4, that'd be amazing.

Why would they spend a bunch of money to make two games when the original game is beloved for what it is? We already got more Umbrella and t-Virus with the RE2 and RE3 remake, and a RE5 remake would be a better place to rework the Wesker storyline. A RE4 remake is not the place to dredge up the original versions of 4 that were discarded for a reason.

Would they really remake 5? 5 seems too modern, seems like the only other potential remake could be Code Veronica.

And the older version of 4 was discarded for technical limitations, not because it was bad.

There were four versions of the game, including one that would become Devil May Cry, all with different scenarios. They were discarded for a multitude of reasons, including cost, burnout, and the development team getting sick of the classic Resident Evil formula, and the one that was closest to completion was only 40% complete. It's not as simple as just breaking out an old script and making two games in one.

True, as much as I detest what RE4 did to the overall series, the game is beloved for a reason and if you're doing a remake, it'd be best to focus on what people loved about it and to keep the Plagas storyline.

With that said, I think Dom's idea of a "What if?" spinoff where the early "Downfall of Umbrella" storyline set up by RE3's ending with the heroes taking down Spencer in his castle could be interesting as well.

Then again, after how Operation Raccoon City turned out, I'm not so sure Capcom would even entertain the notion of "What if?" style spin-offs for RE.

Hell, I think RE4 is too modern to remake given the fact that the gameplay still holds up and it's been ported across multiple eras much like Skyrim and GTA V.

The biggest reason RE4 is being remade is that it's both popular and fresh in people's memories but is still old enough to have nostalgia value attached to it.

I've also theorized that the RE4 remake is meant as a wider soft reboot of the franchise, making the game more horror-oriented and changing up some of the plot as a way to soft retcon RE5 and especially RE6.

Given how Village takes a lot of cues from RE4 but is still overall a lot more horror-oriented, I'm thinking this might be the case.

Ideally, I'd love to see a Code Veronica remake as well, with Survivor remade as a story DLC since the original Survivor was a short side title but it's still canon.
As a side note, I've noticed a recent trend of RE fans giving Survivor a second look and appreciating it, either as a flawed hidden gem or at least as a good concept with not-so-good execution.

Most notably, GManLives did a video praising the first Survivor and even debunked the belief that "Survivor would've been good if it had light gun support in America" since he's an Aussie who actually got to play it with the light gun and the PS1 controller.

Then again, GMan is an FPS sperg so make what you will of that.

If the rumors about a "RE3 Remake Director's Cut" are true, then you could do an Outbreak remake as well, but Capcom's attempts at an online multiplayer RE game have always sucked. So if I were them, I'd focus on single-player only.

Even the original Outbreak was more of a case of "Good concept, meh execution"

Survivor isn't as bad as people made it out to be. No it doesn't hold up next to the games that precede it, but those are big shoes to fill so it's flaws are going to stand out even more.

I do think that the idea of Survivor is good; a first person shooter with RE's lore would actually be pretty cool, despite the obvious genre change. It's just that Capcom didn't get what makes an FPS fun however, plus Japan doesn't really DO FPS since they hate it for fucking with their head. Survivor was kinda doomed from the start.

Nowadays tho, I think another shot at a Survivor game would be pretty cash. Like Doom, but with more survival elements and spooky bits.

Also a boosted enemy roster. Seriously, the latest RE games have slumped with the enemies, get some more muties and shit in here! Bring back the spiders and stuff, I want to see some body horror shit, not zombies and the odd Hunter/Licker copypasted everywhere!

It seems capcom is about to announce something on Presidents’ Day. Now funny thing about that, and I picked this up because I saw someone mention it. Guess what RE4 is about? Saving the presidents daughter. Probably means nothing though. There’s also people who have mentioned that it could be street fighter 6. Which actually makes a lot of sense, and I’d be disappointed if that was the case. Anyway blah blah blah enough with my special Ed ranting, here’s a link.

That ain't all, another timer is on the japanese RE site set to expire tomorrow; so could this be a dual RE announcement or something?

Please be RE4make, please be RE4make...

RE8 DLC is what seems likely from a marketing perspective. Announcing a new game before releasing supplemental content for the current game seems like something the pro-marketing PHD department would have a meltdown over. But I have no idea, just speculating.

It was unfortunately just a website update. Capcom tends to overhype everything.

The timer actually looks like something though.

Am I the only one that fucking hates the nuking scene in the Remake of 3?

Its just so fast and stock. There is no scenes showing locations from 2 and 3 getting destroyed, zombies fucking vaporised by the blast and entire pieces of the city getting blown apart. Its just a literal stock one angle of the nuke and thats it.

Compare that with RE3 and Outbreak's versions of it. Sure, sure, someone shills will say its more "realistic" that way and fair enough, but RE is able to get away with a lot and still remain relatively realistic. I dont think anyone was complaining that the nuking of R.C in the previous games was "unrealistic".

Its more about symbolism about the destruction of an innocent american town due to Umbrella's ambitions and greed. It destroyed the virus but it destroyed anyone that was still alive. That city dying was the transition into the world we would see in RE 4,5 and 6, the world of bio-terrorism and the BSAA. Its the "end" of an era.

And all they could do was just a stock boom and angle. And the most basic bitch line reading from Jill afterwards, it clearly needed a second take. Im also still annoyed at the simple lack of an alternative ending where Barry arrives to save the day like the true OG that he is. And we also lack any sort of epilogue...while the original had SEVERAL of them. They could have easily used them to setup the Code Veronica remake by focusing on Claire leaving towards Europe, maybe the first few notes of the save room theme from CV to confirm that its happening

The remake had no excuse on the technical level.

Seriously, fuck this remake. It gets worse the more I look at it.

RE3make had so much potential to be superior to the previous remake, but Capcom did a stupid and put the job onto a literal b-grade dev team. There was SO much opportunity to change or fix things, like keeping every enemy and boss intact, or expanding on locations. But nah, lets make Jill a generic girl boss who verbally beats up Carlos (in my opinion the better version too, I just like his personality more in the remake) and makes really bad one liners. Bitch doesn't even say her iconic final line towards Nemesis!

Thinking about RE3make just makes me sad. So much wasted greatness.

RE 1 and RE 3 made me a Jill Valentine fan, easily in my top 3 RE characters.

REmake 3 makes me

Jill is more cringey than RE4 Leon.

Not a good sign when your MC leaves and the game improves. Opinions are split on the "horde" mode in the hospital, but I liked it. It didn't feel too out of place, considering it was a run-and-gun affair up until that point in the original (the burning ruins of the clock tower).

been almost a year and the lack of good lady porn is disappointing.

We can agree that Carlos was the one of the very few things the remake improved. He legit sounds like a chill guy that can take things serious when necessary (unlike the original who comes off as goofy at times). In fact, I think he and his merc buddies were mostly an improvement (Nicholai a bit less simple and is at least more entertaining to watch, even if his motivations are still as shallow and basic as before). I also came to prefer his remake design over the smooth hair look of the original. His actors (voice and body) were doing their best with what they were given.

My fav scene of him had to be when he found out Jill was right all along about Umbrella and all the guilt of not believing her and that he is working for the assholes responsible for this just hit him all at once. He just shouts "FUCK!" while punching the computer (which somehow opens a door but I digress).

I was annoyed when I had to play as Carlos in the original, now its Jill Im annoyed to play as in the remake.

Maybe because Carlos had more of an engaging personality than Jill to be honest.

Im just reminded just how safe REmake 3 plays. Many say the original was just an expansion pack for 2 and I always disagreed. RE 3 was the game that actually explores R.C instead of sticking to a few specific locations. RE 3 was a very "on the run" game, which was fitting given you were being chased. You saw many locations within the city, which just helped to sell more of the city as an actual city rather than just more of the same. It really felt like R.C was dying and was overrun, with people dying left and right and you couldnt do anything to stop it no matter how fast you ran, the zombies would always get to them faster.

And in the remake we dont see nearly as many locations and they are damn aware about it by referencing an iconic one but never going there (god damn it, that clocktower tease).

The remake truly is just an expansion pack of 2
